Hi
I have an 1983 Kawasaki KLT 250 three wheeler I have power to the coil and through the coil but does not fire at the plug. Would like to know how to diagnose this problem as far as Is it the coil pick up? how do I check or is it the coil? I have two coils and they both act the same. Thanks for helping
So yo have an electronic ignition then. Id be suspiciious of the little 'black box' that comprises the system.
Electronic ignition is teriffic while it works, and they have a good track record. When it quits ... id much rather work on the points type.
Aside from checking the adjustment on the electronic ignition, I dont think there is much you can do with them
Im not a expert on Kawasaki ignition ... I think the adjustment is the space between the pickup and the magnet and I think that whole business sits on an adjustable baseplate.
Once the Gap is set (nope, I dont know how much but Id try .035) you should be able to adjust the base plate to get a flash out of a timeing light at the correct spot on your alternator ... what, you dont want to take off the side cover? Please dont, im not sure where the timeing marks are on a Kaw. So what? Well play with it back and forth until you can get the engine to talk to you.
You may have success if yo join a Kawasaki discussion group at the Kawasaki owners site.
Sorry, I did the best I could but I know this is not the answer you deserve.
Honda has a club where if you join you gainaccess to all manuals.
Maybe Kawasaki has something similar? Might be worth looking at.

I am just sure it is the magnetic pick up Located on the left side of the motor.
I was afraid of the box. I just replaced it with a used one out of a junkyard How do I adjust the ignition. Is there suppose to be power down to the pick up? How would you check the box? Run ohm tests? Thanks for helping me with this
Thanks for the help. I will try it on wed. if I have some extra time. I did pull the side plate and nothing really scary there. The magnet looked good and the pick up visually looked good. But whether they are good or not is another question. I did try the Kawasaki group they just said get a manual. So when we get some cash will pick one up to Thanks again I will post if I get it figured out.
Do you have points and condenser system or magnetic based ...
