1986 Yamaha FZ750. Idle Timing problem. NEED HELP!

I have a 1986 Yamaha FZ750. I have a problem with the Idle Timing(?) I had problems with it when I initially got it, needed a tuneup, throttle and choke cable needed to be oiled... then I was told to try adjusting the timing by turning the screw on the carb that has a spring on it. Tried doing that, and now I have a whole world of problems because apparently I was supposed to count and make sure how many full turns I did and I have no clue, and don't know what the original settings were. I can get it to start sometimes by messing with the screw but it's hit or miss and then usually if I try to give it gas or rev from idle it will sputter out or die. Any way of find out what the original setting was??? I counted 45 1/4 turns from the fully tightened position.

OK, the Idle screw is what I was talking about.. Ok so tighten it ALL the way and then work on getting it to idle at 1000RPM. Alright I haven't seen an air mixture screw but I guess I had better find it. The problem is that when I did actually have it idling at 1 grand it would bog down when I would try and give it gas. I will go try this with thew new info and post back shortly. Thanks for the quick response! :)

I just tried what you said. It was fairly successful since when I was trying earlier this morning I couldn't even get it to start anymore and ended up completely draining the battery. I had it on a charger with about 45mins or so of charge when I gave your suggestion a shot and it did actually get it started. But after a few minutes of tinkering something happened and the bike died, tried to start it up again but the battery was too weak. Charging it now and will try it a little later on this afternoon... If not today then tomorrow and will get back to you.

For sure, will go buy new plugs later on today. Any other suggestions? Oh one other thing I had noticed with the bike. When I would test ride it... It would almost seem to jump really hard when I would give it even just a little gas, and when I would get it up to any kind of speed(15-20+MPH) and let off the gas it would start to rev down really hard. Kind of like it's fighting itself... Is that caused by the problems I listed above or something else possibly?

Yes it has... I have all of the records, there are tons of them. Its in pretty good condition. It's just been parked for a while I'm told. The guy told me it should just need a tune-up. So far I've fixed the throttle cable and choke from sticking, cleaned the carbs by spraying carb cleaner down the fuel line multiple times and then draining the bowls afterwards. Replaced the fuel filter and cleaned gas tank to remove the gasoline deposits and that brings me to the present situation of trying to fix it as far as revving and idling goes. I am very new to this. Never worked on a motorcycle before.

I can't get my Fz750 to idle. Engine runs great above 2000 rpms. Will not run below 2000 rpms. Stalls. Have completely cleaned the carbs. Jets seem good. New Plugs. New fuel filter. Any ideas? Thanx

You need to sync the carbs after removing them it wont idle if they are out of sync.
When were the valve clearances last checked? It wont idle if they're out.
If you alter the valve clearances you shd sync the carbs after
