Hi ive got a97 zx6r which feels like its only running on 3 at low speeds soon as i open it up feels like its on 4 again. yesterday riding from work it was worse than ever only running on 3 and then coming back to life every minute or so. ive checked plugs all sparking leads look ok . could it be 1 of the carbs blocked if so how do i check this thanks
Mi.eu was doing same thing,I took carbs off have them a good cleaning ,,jets were stopped up and found a crack in the boots between carbs and motor, replaced those..so far so good
Before you strip down the carbs, which takes ages, try some redex neat in the petrol mix, give it a blast as this is the quickest and easiest method I know.
You are going to have to open up the carbs and look at your jets screws. take a thin wire poke it through and blow it out.. replace and enjoy the like new feeling ride.

could be the float , clean carb again . if it was me id check the compression , easy stuff first . then check the spark output to know if your getting weak spark after its warmed up . the service manual explains how to check the electrical system.
Lest adjusting the idle adjustment screw on the carb, turn the bike on and slowly turn the idle speed up so it doesn't die out on you, if that doesn't work try taking the carb off and cleaning it with carb cleaner
Hi Charles Gregory Before you remove or try to adjust your low and high speed jets you should always count the number of turns it takes to lightly seat the idle mixture screw and high speed needle adjusting screws. Be sure to write the number of turns down on a piece of paper so you will know how many turns from the seated position to open the jets when you go to reinstall them, or if you remove them for cleaning or replacement. If you have aready tried to adjust them then the adjustments below should get it running for you for final adjustment when warm. Normally you will adjust your idle jet to 1/2-3/4 turn open from the bottom seated position. Then you will re-adjust the low speed of the engine when the engine is warm by turning the idle screw in or out till the engine runs smoothly at idle speed, around 1200 RPM. The high speed jet is adjusted to 1 1/2- 1 3/4 open from the bottom seated position, after the engine is warm. Then re-adjusted by turning the High Speed jet adjustment screw in or out till the motor runs smoothly at high speed. Alway use the "lightly seated" method if you have not changed the screw settings.
