Is the battery dead or dying?

My thought is your battery is 99% dead. When you disconnect the load you descrive, there is 1% of the battery trying to do what you want.

Remove the battery from the bike and have it tested at a auto parts or motorcycle parts place. If you can do a hydro test on it, you can do that test. A good reading ia 1200. Put a small charger on it if you like. Im guessing it is not worth charging but try just the same. That way, when you plunk your hard earned $ down for a new battery, you will not feel bad.

Let me know what happens

thanks

1999 800vs replaced battery when key is turned on to start bike all lights on speedometer light up should be just green neutral.bike just clicks will not turnover

Actually when the key is turned on all the "dash" lights come on neutral, oil, temp and what ever else as soon as the bike starts the lights will go out. If the lights come on while the engine is running then you have a problem or it's in neutral "green".

For the bike not starting a few things, first off the battery even though you say it's new may have been sitting on the shelf for a while and they do loose power so it may need charging. The newer bikes the headlight light comes on when the key is turned on which robs the starting system of power to turn the starter, the batteries need to be good on these bikes or it's just not going to work. If the headlight comes on and looks yellow or amber then there isn't enough power in the battery. If it's a nice bright white light then there is power and the starter may need to be serviced.

If the bike has been sitting over the winter I'd guess the battery has just lost power and requires charging.

Cheers be safe and have fun with your motorcycle

Hi guys i just bought a a 91 zx750 and the bike is dead

start with the battery and check the fuses around .
did you check as well that your cut off switch is not damaged and may earth itself .
power issue s like this one you will have to work from the battery and work your way away from it .
check all wiring for bare wires that may contact the frame .
What you may have to do also is really look at where the bike has got damage and look around for cut wires or damage items .

My R1 will not start, the headlights are on but the neutral light wont come on and nothing happens when I try to start it.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A possible temporary workaround is to pull the clutch lever in and/or folding the sidestand up when starting the bike. This is assuming that the starter motor relay is clicking and that the starter will spin.

On a 2000 R1, to address the missing neutral light even if the neutral light bulb checks out to be good is to follow the skyblue wire and check the neutral switch which should read 0 ohms to ground when not in gear.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

Starting my bike

Hi,

On most bikes including Kawasakis, the starter button would be on the right side of the handle bar on the throttle grip assembly. It would be right below the headlight switch. Above the headlight switch would be a switch that must be set to RUN, this is the engine kill switch.

If the above still fails to crank/start the bike, then the following would have to be checked:
  • battery and battery cables;
  • starting relay;
  • starter motor.
If the engine will crank but will not engage/run, then you need to check for:
  • spark at the plugs;
  • fuel as supplied by the carbs.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
