I have a yamaha yz 125 1994. I have a problem with a weak spark.. i thought it was the stator but when we applied a volt check there was 12 on the stator. but as we go up to the coil there is less and its less on and off, sometimes there is zero. so i thought of this, i have an old lawnmower, can i take of the coil of lawnmower and apply it to my dirt bike?

It will be the coil buddy what you can do is try the coil off the lawnmower on the bike but just to test it as you will lose performance if kept on there

Not sure of the age of your YZ 250 ( You never said!) but in most Yamaha they use dual stage stator which means a stator will charge a spark plug at two speeds one on kick starter speed and the other on running speeds it is common that the low speed circuit on the stator to fail leaving you with a bike that only starts when pushed its a very simple test to diagnose it be worth checking you have spark on kick starter speeds with spark plug out the motor but still connected
YZ series mx'rs dont have a lighting coil thus do not have a 12v supply.WR series do.(but they don't come in 125cc at least not here in Oz). Am not sure if WR 250 stator will fit(I very much doubt it).The best next suggestion is to check in MX magazines in advertising section uasually at rear of mag for stator repairers & ask them for advice.
yes buddy the only way to test the cdi is too put on another bike and if it was the stator it wouldnt spark and yes you are on the right tracks but maybe it could be the plug does it run brilliantly
