Pull your clutch in on the left handlebar push the shifter lever down and let you clutch out slowly while giveing the bike a lil bit of gas. But if you don't know how to ride i wouldn't be jumping on a kx 250

Testimonial: "yeah i thank you for your help i was in a n military accident and i have abd memory i know how to ride i just can remember the shift pattern"

I also have a kx 250 2003 and its very easy to shift once you get the hang of it start in neutral pull the cluthch in and push down on the foot gear selector for first. Now you should be in first gear with the cluthch pulled in. slowly and i mean slowlyu let the cluthch out till you feel it grab now pull it back in. what you felt was the bike want to start moving forward. now this time give it gas and slowly let the clutch out its going to start moving forward pull your feet up and ride then shift to second by pulling in the clutch and pulling up with your toe on the foot gear selector now let the clutch back out while your still rolling and now your in second repeat until your in 5th gear. to down shift pull in the clutch lever push down on the gear selector and you will be in fourth repeat until in first. good way to slow down also. just remember to give it more gas and let the clutch out slowly and youll be fine in higher gears u dont have to let it out aS SLOW. REPETITION IS THE MASTER OF ALL SKILLS

Assuming that you know how to operate a clutch, (the lever on left handle bar), your shifter is the pedal at the left foot peg. By clicking the lever down until it won't click anymore, your bike will be in 1st gear. Slide your toe under the pedal and click up to get to 2nd. (note: Neutral is between 1st and 2nd..1/2 click up from 1st to neutral, 1/2 click down from 2nd to neutral. To go from 2nd to 3rd, toe under shifter up one click and so on to 4th etc. To downshift, toe on top of shifter and click down. Good Luck

If you do not know how to shift gears, you should get some proper motorcycle training before attempting to ride. The phone book has many training agencys you can use.

I keep hitting a false neatral when i ride. and

Going into neutral has nothing to do with the oil. First, make sure the shifter lever isn't down too far. not allowing it to "return" after a shift.

Sounds like it needs to be split.
You could have a bent shift fork, or worn shift drum. This is not a "simple" job.
I've also seen where gears mesh chewed up or rounded off.
Get it opened up!

Hi, my 1994 KX 250 will not engage 4th gear - all the other gears are OK. When in the 4th postion there is a knocking noise like the dogs are not engaging. When I took it apart everything looked OK the...

The worn shift fork is the problem. Normally a shift fork will never show any wear. When a fork gets bent is when wear begins to show. If a good shift fork is set side by side with a bent fork it is very hard to see any difference. The bend is so slight that it is usually impossible to discern. Put in a new fork and the shifting problem is history.

Now would be a good time to install new crank bearings and new crank seals as well.

I have a 1996 kx 250 that will not select 4th gear going up or down the gearbox but selects other gears fine what could be the problem

Selecter forks could be damaged, gear shift shaft bent, return spring faulty, clutch dragging maybe! Try rocking it backwards and forwards engine off and see if you can find that gear! Good Luck - The Yeti

I need to know how much fork oil is needed for a 2001 KX250

Hi,

The volume of oil is calculated by air gap. This is proportional to your weight.
BUT to make life easy, 380 to 400 ml gives a good ride across the board.

If you are planning to race the bike, I would sugest letting a pro do the suspention for you.
Although it's not rocket science, it takes a lot of experience to get it perfect.

Enjoy the ride
