Possible flooding, cold weather can freez open injectors causing them to leak into the cylinders. Press the gass pedal all the way to the floor and crank the engine for no more than 60 seconds. The cylinders will clear themselves allowing proper mix of air/fuel and should start easy. If that does not solve please specify if the engine is 1.8l or 2.8l.
SOURCE: priming fuel system on a 8.1L diesel engine 2001chev 1 ton dual
Well, one problem is, if its an 8.1, its not a diesel. The 8.1, or Vortec 8100, is a gas engine. The DuraMax is a 6.6 engine. There is usually not a priming system on a gas engine, because the fuel pumps will usually get it through the smaller filters used quick enough you dont need them. However, if it is a DuraMax engine, then right on top of the fitting where you mount your diesel filter, there is a primer pump and an air bleed valve. What you do is, open up that air bleed valve ( its a little black plastic octagon shaped thing on the top of the filter mount) then you pump the primer (the silver button looking thing) until you get diesel squiting out the air vent without too many air bubbles or gurgles.

Sounds like possiblity of the oil pump being bad, and is setting off other sensors on your car.

You cannot bleed the fuel injection system.Test the pump alone (not on the bike) for sufficient fuel supply. Also check the fuel pump relay.
If all that is ok next time you try to crank the engine (only with kill switch on, the fuel pump primes up) with lifted tank and opened air box, spray a bit of carb cleaner spray towards the throttle bodies. It will help.

You have a couple of electrical checks you can do first. Yes this will be somewhat painful. The other item is if you go through these troubleshooting steps you won't be happy if your fuel pumps DOA.
First replace your fuse, I know it may look good, but replace it anyway. Next check your relays, then under your speedo console there is a connector on the tank. If this connector has been unplugged it is very easy to bend the pins inside, check for that. Check for power to the pins. If you have power and still no working pump, then it is an entirely different task and somewhat costly.
A bad fuel pump is not a real fun replacement sometimes it is however not a bad idea to replace the whole ball of wax which can run you about $400 for parts at retail. If you conclude your pump is bad just post with your year and model. Hope this helps,
