Working on project yamaha. changed battery, oil/filter change, all fluids, gear box oil, caliphers, total cleanup. had running well about 2 1/2 months ago. then had to go to Houston to be with Mom. Now, just tried to start it, sputters but won't start. charged battery overnight, changed spark plug, made sure had full gas tank, turned petcock to reserve to start, then back to ON but still won't start? Will fire for about 2 seconds then off?
Fire meaning run a second ok spray bottle w gas in it and air filter box tube off carb inlet have assistant to crank on your command.. spray 4 pumps of gas into carb inlet w grip wide open close grip have assistant crank bike if it starts be ready to pump a squirt of fuel erry 3 seconds . If it stays running doing this . Then you're carb idle circuit is clogged . Carb will be coming off fo cleaning. Kevin or dellorto or some brand of carb clearly marked ?

it's not that your not gettin gas it's that the gas is not getting thru the carbs to the engine. your bike will probably start w/choke on and then die, your jets are clogged and happens to most bikes that are stored w/gas in the carbs.,,,clean them if you know how or take it to a trusted mech...good luck to you...Tim

problem is probably the fuel petcock try this test disconnect the fuel line and get a good length of clear line enough to reach a container hook it up to the petcock and turn the petcock in the on position and observe the flow of fuel to see if it is flowing freely try this in the on and the reserve position.
if it id restricted remove the petcock and clean the obstruction of rebuild or replace it.
