Question about 2005 Kymco Stryker 125

My 2006 125 4 stroke scooter only does 35 mph

I bought it like this i have checked carb, exhaust, and pullys for restriction but none of these are restricked, the scooter starts and runs well untill you get to 35 mph and thats it engine is quiet and does not smoke, it has done 16,000 belt is new would clutch rollers have anything to do with this ? only not sure how to check them. thanks

Check with a dealer mechanic but generally the scooter is small capacity and depending on your body mass , 35-40 mph is approaching the speed limit of the scooter

Why wont my 2007 aveo will not go faster than 20 mph


Fuel limitation. From tank to carb/injectors are you getting enough fuel supply? also Do you have a clogged air filter? Restricted exhaust system. To test exhaust system, unbolt the exhaust pipes from the manifold and see if it is restricting exhaust. If car runs better it needs exhaust work. All of above is if car runs good under 20 mph, Check fuel filter first, to see if its getting enough of fuel. Good-Day!

How to tune / de-restrict a 2 stroke


2 strokes in lower ccs are usualy slow, so heres a list of things you can do to de-restrict and tune your 2 stroke.

1) Get a racing exhaust, Key part too most 2 strokes is a good exhaust, this will remove some restrictions. Gianelli, Big One, fmf and many others are available on ebay or your local bike shop.

2) Big Bore kit, adding a big bore kit can give up to 30% more performance, and will usualy de-restrict the bike. search ebay for (Bike Model) (year) Big Bore kit. it will come usualy with everything you need for the upgrade.

3) Carbon Reed Valves, are a key part too your acceleration, also removing the little cages that stop them opening all the way and replacing with big washers is another good step, make sure theres nothing for your reeds to nock on when removing the cage.

4) Boost Bottle, a boost bottle will help 2 strokes with no reed valves more then reeded bikes but will give alot more low and high end performace. search ebay for (bikes cc) boost bottle.

5) Jets, are a key thing when getting a bore kit or race exhaust. you MUST change the jets if you change exhaust, get bigger ones if you get an exhaust go a few sizes over and check the spark plug if its a brown tan/ grey collor you got it all right, if its black it means you have to much fuel so go smaller, and if its white it usualy means not enough fuel. you can buy jets from any motorcycle shop usualy around $1 a peice. you onyl need to change the Main jet.

6) Air Filter, you dont need it on most bikes but it could add extra acceleration, measure your carbeurator intake and search it on ebay for a K&N style filter, Power filter.

7) Restrictors in the intake, some 2 strokes have restrictors between the carb and the cylinder, it is key to remove these or drill them out to the size of the carb/ cylinder hole size.

8) Sprockets, if your lucky enough to have a chain and sprockets, its a nice trick to change sprockets on your bike.
For Top Speed - Bigger front sprocket & smaller rear sprocket
For Acceleration - Smaller front sprocket & bigger rear sprocket
by bigger or smaller i mean more or less teeth on the sprocket. if you go for speed your acceleration will lack and vice versa if you go for acceleration you will loose top speed.

9) Electical Restriction, Some bikes are restricted in the CDI, if yours does not want to reach a good RPM search up CDI, de-restriction. usualy it involves cutting a wire between the CDI and engine. and will unlock that slow engine into a screaming 2 stroke.


If you follow all these steps your 2 stroke will no longer be restricted and slow and will be the fastest arround.

I don't have the manual on had for the scooter, But the jerking Your experiencing above 40mph sounds to Me like it's due time for a carb cleaning, I'm not sure weather Your scooter is a 2 or 4 stroke so, If its a 2 stroke, You will either mix the oil with Your gas or look for a separate oil tank, If its a 4 stroke, Then it should have a small dipstick on the side of the case where the oil should go.

Scooter won't start with electric start or kick start.


  1. Try depressing the brake handle when starting.
  2. The battery has not been charged.
  3. The battery is hooked up wrong. This is often the reason for blown fuses.
  4. There isn't enough gas or two-stroke oil in the scooter.
  5. There is a gas flow problem, especially on the Euro Scooter or Yamaha models.
  6. The spark plug wire is not connected.
  7. A low battery or bad relay can cause the scooter to only start by using the kick starter.
  8. There is no spark to the spark plug. The coil is bad and needs to be replaced.
  9. Turn the key to the "on" position.
You need to check for a spark. There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to remove the spark plug and put it back in the spark plug cap. Then ground it to the engine - you should be able to lay it against a non-painted portion of the engine. Make sure there is good metal-to-metal contact. In a semi darkened area, attempt to start the scooter. You should see a definite spark at the tip of the spark plug. It's hard to see in direct light. If the color of the spark is blue, that means it's a strong spark. A white color is less strong, and a yellow color is weak. Most scooter starting systems are a bit weak (compared to cars). Even a yellow spark should start your scooter just fine.
The spark must occur at the right time. Just about all scooters made since around 1980 have an electronic ignition. These systems can rarely be set. In general, the spark occurs just before the piston reaches the top of it's stroke. There is a slight delay between the spark plug fire and the fuel-air mixture ignition. That's why the spark occurs a little early. Most ignition systems have an advance unit build in. As the engine speeds up, the time of the spark retards a little bit. This helps the engine fire the mixture at the proper time

There are a lot of tiny fuel and air passageways in the carburetor that must be kept clean it order for your scooter to run right. Carefully, take the carburetor apart. This can be relative easy (on a 50cc scooter). The carb has tiny passages that can get gummed up. Your scooter will not run correctly if the carburetor isn't completely clean, so take your time. I use a gallon container of carb dip (you can get a gallon at your local auto supply store).
First, remove all of the rubber and gaskets or they will get damaged. After a 20 minute soaking in carb dip, I blow out the carb with compressed air. You have to get all the jets and the passageways clean. Be sure the jets are clear, especially the starter jet. Sometimes carb cleaner won't clear out these tiny jets. Use a guitar or a piano string, a strand of copper electrical wire, or a tiny drill bit pin vise. Be sure not to increase the size of the hole in the starter jet or you'll change the tuning. Carefully reassemble everything, checking for cracks in the rubber carb boots and the gaskets. Replace them if they are old and cracked. Be sure and remove all rubber and gasket material first or they could get ruined. Spray carb cleaner also works if you're diligent.
If you have an electric choke, check it to make sure it works. Check the resistance between the wires - you should see around 10 ohms or less. Measure the length of the choke assembly. Remove the choke from the carb and plug the wires into a 12V source for 15 minutes. The choke body should be warm. Measure the length again - it should increase by around 1/8".
Next, consider whether your exhaust pipe is clogged. This is especially a problem with older two stroke scooters. The unburned fuel/oil mixture builds up in the exhaust pipe along with carbon over time. If the exhaust pipe is clogged, your scooter will run terribly or not at all. It can be difficult to tell if the exhaust pipe is clogged. The easiest way to tell is to remove it and try starting your scooter. It will be a bit loud - two strokes will sound like a chain saw. If it runs with the exhaust pipe off, you know that is the problem

Assuming everything is back toether properly and was not the problem the frst place, remove the exhaust pipe to expose the exhaust ports to ensure they are not carbon block. Also check the exhaust it self for a spark arrestor screen that could hve been carbon fouled and clogged. Cannot free flow because of the problems noted above, you will not be able to run a two-stroke engine reliably.

Hi there, i have a problem with my wangye 50cc 2 storke scooter. i bought it as it was a non starter, since then i have bought a new battery spark plug but i cant seem to get the problem, i have checked...


Kyle, there are a bunch of possibilities as to why it will not start. Do you have spark? If so, spray some starter fluid on the air filter or directly into the carb with an open throttle. Now try to start it. If it starts on the spray then the problem is probably in the carb. Bear in mind that the crankshaft seals may be bad. This would lessen or completely kill the needed pressure in the crank chamber. I am assuming the scooter is a two stroke. If it is a four stroke then the valves may need to be reseated. In any event, the carb should be disassembled and cleaned. The timing could be off. The rings could be sticking or shot. The exhaust port could be carboned up to a point the engine can't breathe.
