Where do you top up oil on KTM LC4 640 ? Y plate

What is your oil level on the dipstick ?

Needs lower head gasket

Locate the oil dipstick which will be made of black plastic with a raised lip for turning. The dipstick will either be under the seat on the top of the engine or on the lower side of the engine. Once located, unscrew and wipe off excessive oil. Reinsert dipstick but do not screw it in, then remove the dipstick and hold it horizontal to read the level, which should be between the two marks on the end. If the oil level is near the bottom mark, add enough oil to increase it as close to the top mark without exceeding the top mark.

on a horizontal surface. Remove the oil drain screw and drain used oil

into a container. Clean the magnet of the oil drain screw and reinstall oil drain

screw with seal. Pour in 0.7 litres engine oil (e. g. Motorex Top Speed 4T

15W50), replace plug and check engine for leaks.

TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH WILL BE SUBJECT TO EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR,

IF YOU USE TOO LITTLE OR LOW GRADE OIL. USE ONLY HIGH-GRADE OIL (E. G.
MOTOREX TOP SPEED 4T 15W50).

You don't say if it's auto or stick shift. So-

Auto. Start the engine until warm. Drive vehicle onto ramps, SECURE IT! front up, turn engine off. With engine warm, at the back of the gearbox is a drain plug (we'll deal with that first) Remove the plug and drain all oil out of the gearbox. On the bottom of an auto box there is a plate, if it is easily accessable remove the plate, taking care not to split the seal, Wipe off as much of the reidue as possible, then using a releasing oil, somthing like WD40, spray the inside of the plate and it disolves the final bit of gunk. Replace the plate, the plug, Wipe some clean oil on ALL surfaces that are touching, seals etc, and tighten. Under the hood is a dipstick, by the bulkhead, for the gearbox. Remove the dipstick, and with a funnel through the dipstick pipe, top up the gearbox with the CORRECT OIL until it touches the bottom of the stick, Start the engine and slowly, let the car run off the ramps. With the engine running, wait until up to temp, check your level again, it will have dropped, don't panic, then top up the same way until the oil is between the two marks on the dipstick.

Stick shift. the same as above up until I mention the plate. There isn't one! Remove all the oil, refit the plug. On the top of the gearbox, just off centre, is the re-fil nut. With the car on the ramp, refill with oil. The oil should have come with a flexi tube on top of the bottle, if not, use a funnel on a tube that fits into the nut hole on top of the gearbox, making sure you can access it though the engine bay to fill. Get someone to lie under the car so they can see when the oil comes out of the fill hole, that means it's full. Refit the filler plug, and reverse off ramps. There is no dipstick to check on a stick shift, you don't need it.

It sounds like a long job, but it'll take an hour tops!

most transmission fluids on motorcycles are topped up until it is full if it has a side filling hole (stars to run out of side) with motorcycle level (like on ceneterstand). a top filling hole will have a dipstick. basically you want the gearshafts half submerged in oil.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 250SX is a 2 Stroke engine with a Gas (1.98 Gals Unleaded Premium 91 octane Recommended) to Oil Mixture (using Motorex Cross Power 2T at a 40:1 - 60:1 depends on oil quality) and when KTM says to Change the transmission oil the amount called for is 0.7 liters engine oil using Motorex Top Speed 4T 15W50. These Quanities are from an 04 250SX could not find a 2000. So consult with your local KTM Dealer's Service Department and pickup a Owners Manual at the same time it would be in your best interest. Liter breakdown 0.7 liters = 0.739681 quart (US liquid) OR 0 quart (US liquid) and 1.47936 pt (US Liquid) / 0.7 liters = 1.47936 pt (US Liquid) OR 1 pt (US Liquid) and 0.958726 cups (US)
