If you never have put for oil into a set of forks, yes you have to check both forks. I would suggest treading lightly. If you have time and a place to block the bike as well as a manual you can do it.
Are you adding oil because the seals are leaking or do you have excessive stiction in the fork? If the seals are leaking, you will have to pull the forks and add new seal and put in exactly the right amount oil.
Do you have air seat or is it a closed fork?
For you en500 you should have a volume of oil in your service manual.

Hi Alan, What I'd do is when I'm buying the fork oil I'd ask the person serving me OR if you already have the oil just ring the local Yamaha dealer and ask them.........CHEERS..

How much and what grade oil goes in the forks of a EN500

You have to get the book on this one to redo your forks, If you are replacing a seal or just topping them off, you shouldn't have a leak, but the fork oil is special from any bike shop and the amount is kinda critical, so find a book with the amount of oil needed. Usually you would remove the forks, lay them in a big long pan, pull the ends, and pull the springs and seals out, squeeze them back together and fill them with oil. Hope this helps.

Hi my name is Andy i have a GS550 cafe racer the falk seals are leeking how much iol do you need per leg? [email protected]

you should put in new fork seals before adding oil -leaking fork seals should be repaired as oil can get on the front brake pads--buy a clymer manual and you can change them yourself

Need to know how much oil is in the forks of an aprilia sr50 please

front fork capacity is 285 cc per leg, but you need to take the spring out and fully extend the forks and measure 140mm from the top and thats where your oil needs to sit.

Adjusting suspension

hi there,,if u can see a air valve on top of the forks, then u can use a bicycle or foot pump to squeeze a bit more air to the fork,, or if there is an adjuster on the fork,ie, a plastic lookin cap with 1 2 3 4 and a arrow on it u can turn that to a comfortable position,, if there is nothing u can see, then u either have not enuff fork oil in each fork leg,,or if there is enuff,, u will need to change the grade of fork oil and replace wots in it,, so id say a more harder grade of oil,, usually there isnt enuff oil in the forks to make it dive into the front wheel,, try topping the oil up,,with about,4or 5 egg cup fulls of oil in each leg,,if nothing has made any difference,, put in another 4 or 5 ,,,any probs on how u put oil in2 the legs ,please do come back in ,and il tell u how 2,, im assuming u do no,, ok ,,cheers

How do you replace fork seals in a 1995 Kawasaki Vulcan EN500?

You need to take the fork legs out of the triple clamps, put the in a vice, and remove the large nut/bolt at the end. This is spring loaded, so be careful when the end comes off. The inner workings will the slide out and you will be able to see the seals. Put everything back together the way it came apart.
