1977 TS185 won't run smoothly; carb adjustment problems

1977 TS185 won't run smoothly. What is the function of the 'screw with a spring on it' on the carb? When I turn it either way the idle speeds up or slows down prompting me to adjust the choke. The bike won't idle at a constant rate ever.

Well that is good that I actually know what it is called... The manual that I have (from 1977) does not have any diagrams to where on the carb this mixture screw is, or what the factory settings are so I'm still in a pickle. There is one other screw that is flush with the carb that may be it.. I'll give it a few turns and find out!

    Thanks!

    Hey Rob!

THANKS A LOT! I now have my bike idling at about 1800 RPM, choke off and 3/4 of a turn on the mixture screw! It's never ran that long without stalling!

ok n w you need to back off the idle screw!

close the choke when the motor is at its normal operating temperature!

then its a bit of a jugle between the two ok

wind the mixture screw in all the way but not hard [just till it starts to bind up] or you will destroy the needle & damage its seatin point inside so go slowly!

now turn it back out 2 & a 1/2 turns!

from this point you should start bike & wind mixture screw untill it starts to drop the revs!

check throttle response with a quick blip! & readjust the idle!

keep doing this untill you are happy with its performance & idle speed!

Thats the way its done !!!

    have fun & good luck!

    Cheers Rob

How do i adjust the carb on an echo blower

Not sure what carb you have..You should be able to see a spring loaded air/gas adjustment screw on the carb..once running turn clockwise until motor starts bogging down then the other way until it does the same..keep adjusting back and forth unti it runs smooth..
you may have another on the bottom of the carb bowel..do the same with it...if this doesn't work needs a rebuild kit..good luck..

Tight throttle spring on briggs ok?

I do that on people's mowers when they come in not running fast enough. If they are running too fast I stretch them a little and even cut the end off the spring and reshaped the end to get the right speed. Yes you can do this but be sure you do not over rev the engine or you will ruin it.

My pressure washer is making a sound like a car engine is in neural and the gas pedal is being presses and then released continuously

sounds like carbeurator problem. could need cleaning or adjustment. some carbs have spring loaded adjustment screws for richening or leaning the carb look for the lower adj screw run the machine while turning the screw clock or counter clock wise and see if it smooths out , newer carbs dont have these screws and may have to be replaced or soaked in industrial carb cleaner.

I have a series 51 husky saw. it starts and runs normally until it gets up to operating temps. then it stalls out and either refuses to restart or just won't restart until it cools down again....

sounds like air fuel mixture screws are out of adjustment..start with the on marked (L)..this is the low speed(idle) adjustment...turn it in all the way just until it stops..but be gentle..then you wnat to turn it out 1 1/2 turns as a starting point..start the engine and adjust it until you get a smooth idle...next, with the saw running, pull the trigger and you should have a smooth response from slow to fast...you can adjust the (H) screw until you get good high speed operation...if these adjustments don't fix the problem thenm yoou may need to have the carb rebuilt( a carb kit is usually only 15-30 dollars)

CLEAND CARB NEED TO KNOW HOW TO ADJUST CARB

Most carbs have the adjustment removed (EPA) but if yours still has the adjusting screws here are the seat of the pants methods:

One Screw Carb: Turn it all the way in and then back out 3-1/2 turns, start the engine and make slight turns in or out until the motor runs smooth from idle to wide open, do not get it too lean, turn in until max RPM is reached then turn out 1/8 turn and go from there.

Two Screw Carb: You adjust the one to remedy either the low or high, high is adjusted until the motor runs smoothly under load at high RPM and the low is adjusted until idle and off idle is smooth.

1977 Suzuki TS185 throttle sticks

Could be 2 things to look at first.1 the idle adjusting screw has been screwed in to far and is holding the throttle slide open. The other is an air leak between the carby and the motor resulting in the air/fuel mixture being to lean. This would cause the revs of the engine to be to high.Check these 2 things.Hope this helps
