I own a yamaha gladiator ss 125cc bike. done just 3000km on it. if i decelerate, shift down then try to rapidly accelerate again i get sudden jerks from the bike...this problem is intermittent and doesn't happen everytime..also sometimes i get a random high frequency sound from the engine which doesn't last for long but appears every now and then.... i think the problem may be due to valve clearances....please comment...**** yamaha service centers are unable to solve my problem

    thanks for the reply guys....
mysteriously the jerking has become so rare that I've almost forgotten about it:-). may i ask the difference between a std. carb and a cv carb?? the guys at the yamaha service centre are dead scared to service the carb...they say that the carb is factory set and should not be touched....
the intermittent high pitched sound persists though...the service guys say that it is due to compressed air and should not be a problem???????

the high pitch sound can be heard only during idling.

Valves are probably not the problem. Drain the carb. Water condensation in the gas tank can get into the float bowl and cause jerking. Enough water an the bike won't run at all. Too bad the bike has a CV carb. With a standard carb the position of the jet needle clip can be changed to richen the low end fuel mix. I hope this helps.

Its possible that its valve clearances, but try to isolate at what rpm range the strange sound appears at and when is sputters, the sputtering could be due to a clogged main jet in the carb and the high frequency sound ussually means worn main bearings, but I dont think that with 3000km that would be the problem, try to identify at what rpm you hear it and post again and hopefully i might be able to help

in a standard carb when you twist the throttle you directly control the slide, while in a constant velocity carb the throttle opens and closes a plate on the engine side of the carb, and based on the vacuum created by the piston the slide raises up, keeping the velocity in the carb constant.
And most street bikes come with factory carb settings that have been set to meet all the pollution regulation laws, but it is very easy to adjust these settings to get a bit more out of the bike, dont understand why your mechanic wouldnt work on it... hope that helps with the carb quistion.
but not quite sure about the noise, maybe its the crankcase breather, but it could just be a normal feature of the bike, not really able to tell without hearing it.

Yamaha gladiator ss valve cleareances

Noise seems to be generating from the rocker arm of the valve adjustment. You have to do valve adjustment only when the engine is in cold condition. ie room temperature.

At this point slip a feeler guage & adjust. first loosen the rocker arm hexagon lock nut & try adjusting the valve pressing post. You may require special tool for this!!

Engine Monotonous sound from new yamaha gladiator ss 125cc

The sound is being caused by something mechanical. It is not likely to go away by it's self. It will probably get worse. Don't wait for the next service. Take it in now before any more potential damage can be done. Check the oil level in the gearbox. It could be low.
