When it comes to spark, there are a few things to check. 1), is the coil grounded? 2) are there any breaks in the lines connecting the coil to the spark plug? 3) Check the corrosion of the points and gaps if equipped. if you stored it over the winter you may have old gas in the tank and gummed up carb, flush the fuel and blow out the fuel lines, you didnt say if you have spark to the plug or not, so this would be my first step
If its the overflow, cleaning the sticky carb float could be simple fix.
Turn off fuel, drain the carb, with drain open spray carb cleaner into the bowl through the drain.(enough to rinse away varnish) then try it out, if all is good you are done. If it still runs gas out you will need to open the carb up to clean out the trash.
I had the same problem with my Yamaha 650. Either the clutch cable is misadjusted or you are using the wrong oil. Since the clutch assembly and all that is built into the crankcase, you need motorcycle oil. Are you using motorcycle oil or regular automotive oil.
Im sure there could be more serious issues, but I would check these first.
