Kick stand up or down, clutch in or out? Tranny in neutral with neutral lamp on? Did it start after that one time or it hasn't since? Check switch contacts for both power and start, test start solenoid and ensure power down to starter
Check all ground points and clean em at block, frame and batt posts also. Coat all terminals with dielectric grease. Best corrosion protection.

SOURCE: 2000 yamaha vstar 1100 custom. starter problem?

I had the same problem 2001 XVS1100 Custom
this is a starter issue Over time the starter on this bike twists when its under a load.
Look at the two bolts holding the starter on if they are not straight across then its twisted. turn starter back in line with a pair of big channel locks and try to start this should do the trick if this works i would recommend taking the two bolts out and bend them back straight or replace and reinstall starter this should fixya problem

Hope this helps ...............Jimmyfixya

You checked the solenoid? (ont post hot all the time - the other post only hot when you press the start switch) Check the low volt wires from battery to solenoid and solenoid to switch and from switch to ground.

I think you will find your trouble.

Please let me know what happens.

SOURCE: FUSE IS GOOD BATTERY HAS LIFE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. YAMAHA BWS 2004

Yes instrument lights at least should come on.
Power goes from the battery to the ignition switch via the main fuse, & then splits to ignition & lights (via auxiliary fuses if present) which are separate circuits.
The problem could be an auxiliary fuse (if fitted) then contacts inside the ignition switch or wiring/connections from the ignition switch out to the ignition circuit
That is presuming the cluster light bulbs work!

Hope this helps ( if so please mark as very helpful)

2005 yamaha v-star 1100 with no power to starter or headlight when I turn on the key. Is there a relay of fuse somewhere that might be bad

Did you ever get this figured out? I have same problem on '04 V Star 1100. Started to take off from a stop sign and everything went dead. Found fuse under seat, it's good; battery is good, put on charger anyway... NOTHING electrical works when you turn on the key. HELP?!

2000 yamaha vstar 1100 custom. starter problem?

Could be a starter issue, or a wiring issue. Check for power at the starter when the button is pressed. If you have power, you need a starter, if not, trouble shoot the electrical system.
