Check for a vacuum leak around crankcase with soapy water and spray bottle. At seals and case halves or anywhere there is a separation line between units. Flow flow in carbs/fuel lines occluded. Flush fuel system with seafoam or teardown of fuel delivery lines into case half. Check compression for worn rings, red valve function and sealing, not broken or blowback through intake. B-12 chem tool spray can is great for initial cleaning and rough clean in a pinch but if a hanger queen you know the deal.

Stuart - this sounds like an air problem - you should perform the following test. With the air nailer close to the compressor you must monitor the airpressure after the gun fires. it sounds like the air is not gettting through diapram fast enough or there is a blockage in line. Blockage in line is not suspected for the following reason . It sounds like the air hose is holding enough air to fire 2-4 nails and then you must wait for the line to fill up again and then it fires ok. The pressure regulator out to the line controls this and they do fail. try this test and report back to me - I know I can solve this for you as I have extensive background in compressor and the like.

SOURCE: four wheeler back fires

If the motor has two carbs then balance the carbs. Balancing the carbs basically means being certain the slides on both carbs open up simultaneously. If one carb opens sooner than the other then it 'drives' the other carb and can cause the backfire. Other things can can cause a backfire but lets start here first.

Are you adding oil to the gas? (32/1 = 4 ounces per gallon)
Do you still have spark? Install a new stock spark plug.
Clean the carb, but follow these steps >

Remove the carburetor from the engine.
Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Let the bike warm up then set the idle speed. This process should get you back on the road.

I have a 2007 keeway f-act 50. it has developed a proble, its starts fine but when i pull the accelorator the bike goes up to around 7000 rpm and the engine starts to cut out. i have checked the HT lead...

I will recomend you to clean the carburetor and change the spark plug. If the spark plug is bad it might get problems to set fire to the gas. so change it and you might get your motorcycle working again. Good Luck.

2 stroke engine smokes. how do you adjust the fuel/oil mixture?

The thing with two strokes is that they smoke a bit under normal operation, and they smoke like mad if they haven't really been run for a period of time, I would advise you to run it for a while and see if that helps.

You should not need to adjust the mixture settings at all.

Hope this helps
