Reading all the V Star 1100 problems it seems that this motor cycle has a common issue. I have a yamaha v star 1100 as well, Since I got it I've had to replace the battery 3 times. the speedometer shut down and the battery died while I was riding down the road. Recharged the battery worked fine for a day. checked the wire coming from the stator read 5 to 6 ohms using a fluke digital meter. Read from another site that this should read around .44 to .6 ohms. I get a good reading across the battery and the voltage at high rev is around 14 volts. I'm frankly frustrated....the shop checked it out and said it was doing fine. any body got a clue?
Oh yes..........
voltage regulator.... this unit also contains the rectifier which changes generator electricty from AC to DC for the battery. test the volt reg and it may be ok for the volts, but if the rectifier part is knackered, it will completely screw up every battery, they will not take AC !!!! every time I get a bike in for repair with volt reg. probs I always put in a new battery

Hi My problem is not the common speedometer showing 0 mph its that its reading to fast. 7-10 mph at 5, 20 mph at 10, 30 at 20 and like 55-60 around the 40 mark? i disconnected the battery to try and reset the actual digital readout but it didn't work.
