SOURCE: tire pressure for stratoliner

For riding 2 up I recommend 38 front and 42 rear. Some riders have commented on some front wobble corrected by putting the front to 40 psi.

It is under the seat, under a portion of the wiring harness. Unlock the panel on the road side (not curb side) of the bike. Remove the rubber straps and you will find the battery.

SOURCE: my 2006 yamaha stratoliner has

The valve clearance is automatically adjusted be the hydraulic valve lifter. However Yamaha say there are times when the valve clearance needs to be adjusted manually. Basically to balance a pair of valves if they become misaligned (pretty dam rare) as they are operated by the one lifter. (eg Inlet pair has one hydraulic lifter and the Exhaust pair has one hydraulic lifter)

The recommend service / checking interval is 20,000 kms. (12,000miles approx) according to the manual.

I have 15800 miles on my 2008 and after speaking with a Yamaha service technician, he hasn't had one in yet that has required adjusting when he has carried out the 20,000km service. Infact he has had to adjust one as of yet even at 40,000kms.

It is a bit of a pain to do, as a lot of stuff has to be removed and the covers are a little tricky to get off.

Me, I am not going to bother until 24,000miles, as long as you change the oil and filter every 5000 miles my Yamaha guy recon it will be OK.

If you are going to do it yourself, you will need a manual as only one value has an adjuster and the other is a slipper, so they are not as easy to adjust as a pair of standard valves.

2002 stratoliner wont start and gadges dont work

Hi, Morris and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP, CKP, O2 and/or BAS).
11. Security alarm needs a reset.

How do I replace my speed scensor on my 2006 stratoliner

from the pictures on google images, it doesnt look like a front wheel speedo drive. so my only other thought is its a Final drive speedo sensor, which is where the front roller for the belt is, inside that cover there will be a attachment from the casing to the roller itself. check to see if the bolt that attaches the roller has got damage to the head as if its turning with damage it may be the equivelent of rounding it off like with a socket.

Speedometer, gas gauge, tach don't always work

Remove the chrome bezel around the speedo (3 allen head screws). Raise it up and check that the electrical connections are seated at the front. You will see them when you raise up the chrome panel.

Hope this helps.
