SOURCE: How is the throttle cable routed on the 2045

Hello Chris;

This is a "Jonsered 2045 turbo" thread.
http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=111797&highlight=Jonsered+2045

Post 2 (Warroad50), lists your saw in his signature and is active on the site. I think if you join and send him a PM he will gladly snap a photo or 2 of the cable routing on his saw. There are other owners here as well. All I have met are willing to offer a little help when asked. A search for a related subject and posting a question there is usually more fruitful than posting a question that has been asked before.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH

My jonstred chain saw has no choke lever

Ian Duncan...

I have no idea if you are bragging or complaining...

I WILL TELL YOU ... I have started many many a chain saw... and the chokes are nearly useless...

FIRST RULE: always use only fresh fuel...!!

Proper sequence for an ice cold saw (optimal adjustment)...
- squish the fuel bulb a couple of times
- set the choke
- couple of yanks until it coughs...
- completely release the choke and the next yank will get you running

If you have NO CHOKE... JUST leave the THROTTLE ALONE
until it coughs... Then start juicing the throttle...

What's a jonstred? Oh... Jonsered

Jonsered 2149 turbo , does any one know the factory settings fornthe carb ? Iv turned the H L in all the way waiting instructions , what about the idle ? Thanx

Yes I do. Do not over tighten the H and L needles you will ruin the needle seats (clockwise closes the needle jet, counter clockwise opens the needle jet) There is no air mixture needle on a chainsaw carb (2 cycle engine) all are gas mixture needles H - high speed operation, L - low speed operation. [The saw carburetor operates like a 4 barrel carb on a 350 chevy, runs on 2 but kicks in all 4 when you hammer it.] Turn the H needle to 1(one) full turn open (counter clockwise). Turn the L needle to 1 1/4 (one and one quarter) turn open (counter clockwise). NEVER EVER close the H needle to less than 3/4 open or the L needle to less than 1 turn open. If you do you will burn the saw up from lack of oil lubrication. [I have several Jonsereds saws a 52E, 451EV, 49SP, 520SP, 621 race saw, 630, 70E, 70E race saw, 80E and last but not least a 90E. I worked many years for the importer and distributor of Jonsereds as a Territorial Rep. All my saws run like a top. My newest saw is a 1984. I chainsaw carve and cut firewood with all of them year round. In short I like-em, they're the best.] I find that all my saws run the best and strongest with the carb set at around 7/8 turn open on the H needle and just above 1 turn open on the L needle. The idle screw I set last after the saw responds correctly to the carb settings. I quick throttle the saw to make sure the saw picks up RPM and doesn't fade out, put in a log to make sure it maintain tourque under load and not bogg down (tweak the H & L if needed, remembering the 7/8 - 1 1/4 rule I adjust the idle screw to where the saw sound smooth and un-labored at idle. I never let it idle to where the chain moves when it idles. For safety reasons. Hope this helps. EdN

Does anyone know the factory setting for the carb on a jonsered 820

Usually you can tune these rather easily.

Turn both adjustment needles clockwise until snug.
Back both out 1 full turn

Now on the L needle, you adjust this while the saw is idling.. 1/4 counter clockwise increments...

The H needle you adjust while pressing the throttle in and holding it in as you turn the needle as well counter clockwise.

In the meantime, I will try and find if they post the actual settings which are more based on the engine capacity/ cc... the model of the particular carburetor will vary saw to saw.

Got a Jonsered LR10 difficult to start. More difficult to start when hot. Need to wait for it to cool down then it might start. Always having to charge battery. Any ideas what the problem might be? CH

Most LR 10 i saw were fitted with a Briggs and Stratton engine, there is normally an in line fuel filter from the tank to the carb, this may well be part blocked, so start by replacing this filter, make sure the fuel in the tank is fresh and clean, make an adjustment to the throttle cable, with the air filter removed you can see the choke flap, make sure the choke flap is closing fully as you move the throttle control on the dash board to the choke position, also make sure the choke opens fully in the full throttle position, there is a single screw which allows you to move the cable in or out to achive the correct opening and closing.as the filter is now off replace it with a new one, now try again.

I would try a spark plug first and second look at the muffler, sometimes the exhaust part of it gets clogged up and it can't "breathe"
