I suspect oil not draining from the rocker covers and instead draining into the cylinders. Could give it an oil change which should clear blockages.

SOURCE: BMW 320i coupe 1994,rear wheel smoke(handbrake pads stuck on???)

hi from the uk considering what you say in your post and this is a present for your g/f may i suggest for her safety that you have a qualified mechanic take a look at the cars brakes and steering/suspension components and give you an unbiased written report on the above for peace of mind also to ensure it is safe for g/f to drive considering age of car and how long it has been stood/off road ??? last time serviced etc ? there are many things to consider if vehicles are layed up for long periods such as deteriation of belts brakes and steering parts seizure as the answer you were given as to why rear brake/s were stuck ??on seems he knew this?? and maybe other problems which will be discovered if you have safety inspection/report ? and will be worth it knowing g/f is safe on highways (posing ? ) hope this helps and at the end of the day car is a good buy best wishes from uk

SOURCE: 325i BMW emitting white smoke

You are smelling burning antifreeze. likely a head gasket but only testing will determine that for sure...Do not drive it. get it to a shop or more damage is likely.

SOURCE: smoke and oil smell at start up sometimes

Hey WendyandRon..there is 3 types of smoke..that comes from a combustion engine that has a problem..there is black smoke..which means it running excessively rich with fuel..the next is a blue smoke.which means oil consumption..which could mean the engine is worn..but not always..there is other factors..and then white smoke..from a bown head gasket..and if ya hang out at the rear exhaust pipe..you probably can tell me what it really smells like..and we can go from there

White smoke from BMW 740i exhaust

white were? the exhaust tip, or other spot, long pipe, name spot?
white, is steam or OIL.
oil smells like burnt oil and takes for ever to dispate
steam is water, and smells , sweet due to 50% glycol inside.
and goes away fast.
but all Gas engines make water at all the time running as a by product of combustion and for sure on cold days, some times full time cold
due to climate effects.
does your neighbors car smoke at same time, (look)
bingo , dew point.

all gas engine smoke cold started, (steam)

so first find out what it is,
take the dip stick out of a hot engine. stalled, drip it on the exhaust
see that smoke ,smell it? that is burning oil
now you know what you have, steam or oil. smoke.

Exhaust pipe comes out white smoke when start bike on side stand

Continuous or just for the 5-10 seconds.
If continuous you may have oil seeping past your pistons oil rings or valve guides oil seals.
Check your spark plug see if they are fouled badly (covered heavily and oily) or just covered by oil and sooth lightly.
If 5-10 sec it is normal as the engine is heating up there are normally a little oil seeping past the seals.
