Question about Power Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Screaming Eagle Deuce. It has a power commander 3. Bike will only start if I jump it with cables and taking power commander off fixes the problem. Id like to put the power commander back on if I can figure out why this is happening?

SOURCE: 1996 Vision Eagle runs rough and stalls when started

BCM I believe on that should be behind glove box area. You'll have to remove knee guard from door to radio, to see it up under near glove box area, screws & brackets holding up there. As far as disabling it, a little google work or go on a forum, you may get info, but sounds like circuit board has to be modified with jumper wire or something. Have you tried unlocking passenger door with key(s) to see if that will disable security system?

SOURCE: Need the torque spec on the acorn nuts that fasten

I have a slightly older springer, but they are probably the same. The shop manual says in reference to the acorn nuts on top of the spring restraints, "Tighten acorn nuts to 30-35 ft-lbs torque."

SOURCE: High Idle On Start-up.

Most fuel injected motorcycles do start up in a "fast idle" mode. Although I don't know much about fuel injection on Harleys (H-D will not tell you much about it unles you are one of their technicians), I don't think the system is equipped with an engine temp sensor. Since the crank case sensor get it's pulses from pockets cut into the outer edge of the left side flywheel half, the sensor will have oil on it.

Hi Anonymous, P0118 refers to engine temp sensor voltage open/high EFI. I'm sorry that you are still having problems after throwing money at. I don't know if you are doing the work yourself or taking it somewhere. The onboard computer system is very complex and extremely difficult to understand if you are not a throughly trained technician with the proper diagnostic tools. That being said I would take it to your local dealer and let them fix it. Good luck

Hi Anonymous, if the threads are stripped in the head they can be repaired without removing the head. I strongly recomend that you take your bike to your local dealer or reputable shop for repairs instead of trying to fix it yourself. Good luck

I have a HD 2003 Deuce -- It's ejecting the oil temperature gauge from the oil tank and splattering oil every were. Normally takes place during starting. Why?

There is too much pressure in the oil system. This problem is usually caused by too much oil, or a clogged oil line. Did the bike sit for the winter and the oil level seemed low when you brought it out of storage, so you added oil to the tank? If so, the bike "sumped", meaning oil from the tank drained into the bottom of the engine. Putting more oil into the tank caused an over full situation and that is why the dipstick is popping out of the tank. If this is the problem, siphon or drain some oil from the tank and run the bike until all the oil is out of the bottom of the motor. Then change the oil, adding the correct amount to the tank. DO NOT drain all the oil from the tank before running the bike!

I have a 2003 Deuce and my OEM battery went bad, when I would start it the check engine light would come on and then go off after about 30 seconds. Then it left me stranded, while driveing the bike went...

G'day.
Sound very much like a low charge rate(your bike is not recharging the battery).
You need to have the bikes charge rate checked.
Basically-your bike should charge at a rate of 13.4- 14.2volts(DC) when running.
If it's not- the battery will keep going flat.
The test is performed by starting the bike & placing a voltmeter across the battery to measure the output.
It's a relativily quick & easy test to perform that only takes a few seconds-but if the charge rate is low then its caused usually by the regulator or the alternator(stator).
If you have a multimeter-or know someone who does-then the test is pritty easy & you need to do that before you go any further.
If you do it yourself- set the meter to Volts DC at a range higher than 15volts(if the meter is not auto-ranging) run the bike with the volt meter probes touching the Battery(black probe to battery negative-red test probe to battery posative) & observe the voltage reading.
You want 13.5 to 14.2v.
If you can't do it yourself then an auto-electrician or bike shop should be able to do it while you wait for just a few dollars.(only the test though- if the charge rate is low then you have then other issues to solve)

I hope this was of some help
Kind regards Andrew Porrelli
