1996 Yamaha XV 535 Virago DX will not start

Virago will try to turn over but will not run in idle and will cut out if given throttle or put into gear I have a 1996 Yamaha Virago XV 535 and I cannot get it to start or stay running, the starter is in good condition it has good gas and oil and spark plugs are good and gapped right. Also, I have put in a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and battery, however, the bike will try to turn over and very rarely start and idle but will die out if I put it in gear or try to throttle it. I have checked carburetors and they seem fine, not jelled and my needles are good but I don't know what else I could do as for the bike did not come with a troubleshooting guide. PLEASE HELP!

You have clogged pilot jets in the carbs.

Did you try to increase the idling adjustment screw?
Check the spark plugs for its condition and thn reset the air-mixture screw.
Standard procedure for setting air-mixture screw...tight it all the way in, taking care to not over tighten or the tip of the screw may be damaged, thn turn outwards 2 & half to 3 turns, start your bike's engine ,run it to normal temp. and the reset the screw + - alittle either way and you should notice the difference in the idling and all.
Its better too, to also check the valve clearance !
Hope this helps!

Check to see if the throttle bodies still have the little rubber nipple covers on the underside of the body also the LH TB has a controller on it could be that?
Ask on UKGSER site, the user called Steptoe is hot on and owns a GS shop in London.
Stick with the bike as they really are fantastic.

SOURCE: check the ignition timing on my 1995 Virago xv 535 sg bike

Running rich is a carb issue, not a timing issue, and the Virago has non adjustable pickups, the TCI controls the timing advances as you throttle up

1994Yamaha Virago 535 Starts and runs but it cuts off when I turn the choke off.

There is possibly some dirt blocking the main jet supply or the float level has somehow dropped and the engine needs the extra suction to draw enough fuel in to keep running and it is supplementing this extra supply through the idle jets.
