2001 Diana. Only runs when throttle is "goosed". Quits as soon as you let off the throttle. Also backfires thru carberator.

SOURCE: 96 grand am 2.4L DOHC, replaced the Crankshaft

Check the charging system13.65 volts,to 14.25 volts at the battery when running and lights and blower fan on high.Check the battery connections,that they are clean.The fuel pressure maybe low,check the fuel filter,and the fuel pressure to see if the fuel pump is weak.

Has anyone checked base fuel pressure with a gauge ?

Sounds like a fuel problem. You need to check fuel pressure with key on-engine off, and engine running. Autozone, maybe others, rent or loan fuel pressure testers. If fuel pressure is low, suspect a weak pump or clogged fuel filter.

Just turning the key to on will turn the fuel pump on for a couple of seconds to put pressure in the line and to the injectors. During cranking or running, the pump is on continuously. Correct pressure is critical for the injectors to spray enough fuel into the cylinders.
