you need a bit more lead
quick get you out of trouble gadget
get a lead pencil and go over all the electrical connections
including your spark plug
then check your cdi, cdi pick up, coil, lead and spark plug
the coil lead may need cutting back about 10mm
find a running sr 250 and swop his cdi unit with yours if the bike runs, fine. if not put his cdi back in and try again. if the good bike now starts it will indicate that your cdi is faulty. the cdi is located under the tank inside the frame. don't buy a second hand cdi unless you can test it on a working bike. they are very expensive and you don't want to buy a dud
Try following the wire from the stop button on the handle bar back to the CDI box. Simply unplug that wire. CDI is disabled by grounding. Does the KDX have a key switch or just the stop button. Try just connecting the pick up wire to the CDI and CDI to coil. You have to isolate ground to CDI to run. Check air gap at pick up. Use a matchbook for a gauge.(.018)

Google " motorcycle salvage yamaha " Chances are you can get a CDI there for a whole lot less.
Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual. www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp The manual for your bike is there. It covers 1994 to 1997 bikes. Normally there is a wiring diagram in the back of repair manuals. Other than that, the wires should be color coded. Just match up the colors.
