Lister for a clicking from the start motor you may need some to help you. if you or your friend hear the click on the starter motor then the motor and it does not turn the engine or goes crunch like its engaged but does not turn,It will need replacing or fixing, if no click this could be the starter relay or the ignition switch or you have a lose wire tot he relay.

you would only need the connection on the back, no other parts if its the ignition switch other parts are for the immobilizer, as long as the immobilizer is turning off with the key in ignition, it can be remove and separated
you just need the black plug and nothing else. 
you could even just make sport start with a button. this would not bypass the ignition just the start. put key in ignition and turn but instead off turning to 3 on ignition you press a button. that you can put where is best for you, can even hide the button somewhere on the dash.

well its an easier option and it can be beneficial, no one would know it was button. and easy to fit.

Does the car lock open with the switch on the door? If it does not, it is not the key.

sounds like a dead battery to start with. Not even enough juice in the battery to energize the solenoid / brake interlock to get it out of PARK. Hope this helps

I had a similar problem w/ my 94 Pathfinder. The problem was a cheap security system that was offered in that year model and the wiring between the ignition and the starter was run through this system. The dealership was able to by pass the security system and this fixed the problem. For years other mechanics told me it was the starter but I knew it was something else.
