Hi, Renee before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. Finally, most tail light wiring harnesses run under the rear fender held in place by spot-welded clips. Worn out rear shocks or lowered suspension can bottom out causing the rear tire to come in contact with the wiring harness, rubbing the insulation off, exposing the bare metal inner core, allowing it to break or short out.

SOURCE: cant find my fuse box for my 2000 harley davidson wide glide

You'll have to remove the large cover plate (pulls right off) direct opposite side of your battery cover plate to access the fuses, look to the rear of the bracket.

SOURCE: how to remove a ignition switch on a 2005 harley

You must have a special tool to maintain the alignment of the switch when you remove it. If not, you can't get it back on. I would suggest you take that to a shop.

Turn switch on and dash has power but nothing else

More than likely it is the ignition switch or wiring to it. If brake light or horn is working then check red/black wire from ignition switch for 12 volts. This wire feeds the headlight and ignition circuit.

2001 hd dyna wide glide brake light does not come on when brakes are applied , tail light works, bulb is ok , is it the brake sensor ,where is it located and what does it look like thanx

Your Wide Glide has two brake light switches. One is in the right handlebar switch housing and operated by a tang on the front brake lever. If it's not working you probably have a bad switch up there as well. The rear brake switch is underneath the bike. Find the metal line coming out of the rear brake master cylinder. Follow this line back towards the rear brake. You should find a "tee" fitting with a small switch screwed into it. It'll have two wire plugs with about four wires on it unless they've changed something. You'll know it when you see it. Replace this switch first. Since the front brake light works off this switch as well, it may fix the front brake light switch as well. If not, you'll have to take the right handlebar switch housing apart to get to the front switch.

Good Luck
Steve
