2008 jeep wrangler, no power to ignition or accessories, after replacing starter.
Ok, so this has me completely baffled. I replaced the starter in my friends 08 wrangler. After putting it all back together, and hooking the battery back up, when we put the key in to start it, nothing happens, no dash lights, no power windows or door locks, cant shift out of park, power door lock fuse keeps blowing as soon as fuse is put in, or battery is hooked up this finally stopped after a while, but not before blowing 5 brand new fuses in addition to the fuse that was originally there.
the specifics I can give:
*2008 Jeep Wrangler
*3.7 V6
*Automatic
What we've done so far:
*replaced starter it was bad
*replaced solenoid fuse it was blown
*tried swapping relays around no results
*tested connections at Battery, fusebox power in,Alternator,and starter 12.8 volts at each location
*disconnected and reconnected starter and battery multiple times
*tested battery 100%
*with battery disconnected, tried holding negative and positive cables together to reset got idea from jeep forum
*checked for voltage within fuse box at starter relay and fuse 12.8 volts
*fusible link seems fine, is in the power wire to alternator and voltage was present at the alternator
*all points with constant power have power starter, alternator, non switched accessory power port, brake lights
*re-tested voltage at all points with new starter disconnected to rule out defective starter all results are the same
*all connections and terminals are tight, clean, and free of corrosion
Have considered ignition switch, but unless I'm wrong even without power, with the key turned and foot on the brake we should still be able to move the shifter out of park and into neutral?
Other possibility considered is the TIPM totally integrated power module/fuse box. Its a rather expensive part just for the sake of spitballing so I'm looking to rule out any other ideas before spending the money on it as a guess. Any ideas or suggestions would be a huge help!

Take it to a shop. U fu--ed up royally doing the swap. If you had done the job correctly you would not be having this problem. Decent thing to do at this juncture is help your buddy pay for the correct repairs.

Gee, just thought of something - Since battery was already disconnected, perhaps it was already messed up when you did the work for your friend and put everything back the same way you found it. If so, you no matter how careful you were, your efforts were were doomed to failure. Find out who messed with the car before you and just what they may have done!!!!!!!!!!!!If someone initially did mess with it, I would walk away and not want to be cleaning up some mess created by some other AH.Gee, just thought of something - Since battery was already disconnected, perhaps it was already messed up when you did the work for your friend and put everything back the same way you found it. Sounds like you're starting at the expensive end and working backwards! First, check your battery, make sure it has a good charge. Second step is the starter solenoid. Some designs have external solenoids, some are internal. Third is the starter itself. Once you are sure all that stuff is good, THEN it's time to start looking for the neutral safety switch.
The check engine light is meaningless when the engine is not running.
it sounds like the starter is going out even though it may have checked out ok it still could have a bad spot in it also check all your connections. Also when it does this put a test light on the signal wire at the starter (the small wire) and make sure your getting power there when the key is in start position. If there is power but no start you got a bad starter provided you got battery power to the starter too
Hi, the 1997 Wrangler has two fuses to check. Both in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) under the hood. Fuse 3 supplies the accessory circuits through the ignition key and energizes the coil of the accessory relay. If your radio works that fuse is OK. The other fuse, fuse 5 supplies the power to the accessory socket when the relay is energized. The relay is behind the glove box and mounted to a stack of multi-wire connectors. Replace fuse 3
Had the same thing with my 2004 Wrangler. The Airbag light stayed on also. Took to dealer - Cost $400 for them to replace the ignition. Fixed every thing.
Honestly, it sounds like a bad ignition coil. When they get corroded inside they will draw power on a scale much higher than anything else on the vehicle. It is a coil and it's job is to take a little power and make a lot of it. If it's only when the key is in the "run" position, that is likely the case. The only real difference between the two positions is that in the run position there is power being delivered to the ignition system. Good luck.
Seen this problem before. Here is your solution im the foreman for a jeep dealership.
During cranking/starting, the ignition switch voltage should drop to about 0.4 to 0.5volts and the switch status should show start/crank. If the ignition switch status shows FF, that is an undermined switch status. The ignition switch voltage is supplied by a voltage regulator (5volts) with-in the WCM (WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE). This regulator not only feeds the ignition switch with voltage, but if the vehicle has remote start, it all so powers the WCM antenna. So, items that affect the ignition switch voltage readings would include the power or ground circuits to the WCM, ignition switch and the WCM antenna. The WCM antenna can short and take down the ignition switch voltage. A shorted antenna can cause issues with the WCM functioning properly, i.e. starting and or key programming. Check antenna wire for damage or try and unplug the WCM antenna and recheck the ignition switch voltage.
Take this copy to your dealership and check for radio interference. Good luck with your wrangler got an 08 4 door rubicon I have not had this problem with mine yet. Hope this helps you please rate it.
