Leaking brake fluid

Sounds like the seals for the disc caliper pistons are shot, and need replacing.

HOWEVER, you didn't say if it was the Front or Rear brake!

So, rear brake:

Depends on how often you ride it. If you are just a weekend cruiser I would change it every winter or spring, if you are a road warrior I would change it once every 5000.

Fill the fuel tank to minimize condensation. Drain any extraneous water. Unhook the battery. Cover it or store indoors.

Just went to start after winter blowing gas out the air cleaner.

sounds like the needle and seat is not sealing.It is a common problem when bics are stored over winter.Either remove carb and clean nedle and seat or replace to be sure.
