You didn\'t say what kind of exhaust you have on the bike, but if it\'s some sort of aftermarket pipe, like a Yoshi, you may want to check the baffles for carbon buildup.
I would be least suspicious of your clutch and more wary of something in the food chain. i.e. Start with possible bad gas (did you drain last years gunk outta there?.....fuel tap clean out (it doesn\'t take much to plug those small holes)....air filters....etc.
I\'m not sure if your bike is injected or carburetor, but, either way, it wouldn\'t hurt to run a half a can of the appropriate "cleaner" through the tank.
Try these tips first. Like I said, it\'s waaaay more likely to do with air or fuel than mechanical stuff like a clutch. Good luck!
Hi mody check fuel flow from tank by sucking vacuum hose if fuel runs through if not inspect tap. but if yes pull out carbs and check float needle housing strainer. if is free from particles replace ignition coils and pulse generator.
indicates a fuel problem
wide open throttle and back firing indicates low float level or fuel flow problems
check for tank vent is working as it could be a vacuum forming in the tank preventing full fuel flow
It maybe time to remove the gas tank and make sure you do not have a rust problem,,, Some tanks have an equalizer tube that runs from one side to the other...it should never leak, The petcock can usually be cleaned and new orings installed.
loose wires seem to be a big thing with these bikes wiring diagrames is available online try google images if i get chance il add a link later
as for fuel problem turn the fuel tap to 3 oclock position prime constant fuel feed if you get it running this way turn tap on position down
most people including myself have had problems with bike only running on 2 cylinders usually 1 + 4 ive cleaned the carbs fully and replaced coils and leads + plugs also cleaned every connection and made them tighter with pliers etc to all wires under the tank as on my bike was all gummed up oil + corrosion etc bike now runs alot better
First i would change all spark plugs to...NGK#8 medium duty plug .next replace (fuel filter)... i replaced my carb bank and its a big job so try this stuff first: Purchase some "Seafoam" you can get at the local Autozone for $10. Pour in about a 1/3 can into two gallons off gas get the bike started and get on it hard to work the stuff through the carbs....i had a bad hesitation problem on my bike and it took about 10 miles tell it spit out what ever was clogging it up....told a friend at work because he had an idle problem and he said it worked also..he no longer has to sit at a light now and keep reving his bike to keep it from stalling out. Next, check all your carb and emmision lines to insure thery're on solid and dont have cracks in them, i found one that had come off...this will also cause idle to go up and down a lot too. My main moto is: if it works dont mess with it, unless you absolutely have to. But to remove the carb bank you"ll have to take off the seat, remove battery lines, remove fuel line to fuel filter, remove tank bolts and tank assembly, remove airfilter and airfilter housing, remove push/pull throttlecables and loosen up all the hard rubber manifold boots...i had to use a lot of wd-40 and screw drivers as pry bars just to try and lift it out. and after about two hours of fighting/wiggling it it finally came out! Took off the #1 bowl, set it on the ground and heard something rattling around in it ,it was the main jet, it just fell right off into the bowl....that explained why i could only get it up to 8000rpm and no more power. i just decided to take the rest of the bowls off and clean all the floats, pilot jets and just make sure everything else was secure. Also cleanup or install a new air filter and check your chain and sprockets.... if you can pull or lift the chain off the rear sprocket and can see daylight between the two then you definately need a new chain. use standard (non) o-ring DID or RK it"ll get you an extra couple ponies...oh and if you do decide to clean the pilot jets remember to count how many rotations clockwise until they seated very lightly...so that when you put them back in you snugem up lightly then back them off counterclockwise the same ammount of turns. can i get a feedback on this...thanks!
Carbs need to be removed, dismantled and cleaned. Soak in solvent or equivelant for a couple hours and use air nozzle to blow dry. Make sure to blow out jets.
