Hi, Dean before testing any electrical component in the Starting Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Engine Run Switch is "FAULTY" or corroded.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
5. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
6. FOB battery low or dead.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Faulty starter button.
9. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
10. Security alarm needs a reset.
11. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.
12. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
13. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
14. Faulty ignition relay.
15. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
16. Check for engine trouble codes.

I have a kymco bug espresso 2005 model 150cc. about to do oil change and just read the bit in manual about gear oil. Does this scooter need that too?

Hi, Sonia excellent question it all depends on how long you have owned the scooter and it's mileage, engine oil needs to be changed every 2000 km or 1250 mi. gear oil needs to be changed every 4000 km or 2500 mi.I recommend 10w40 in a synthetic "motorcycle" (not automobile) engine oil if you can find it, Amsoil and Mobil1 are the best and for the rear differential, SAE 80w90 gear lube is recommended, for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Kymco, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Last scooter I changed a sparkplug on it was under the floorboard... That is where your feet rest. I advise you to get a manual if you plan to do your own maintenance.

When on start up can not get on it and ride have to let it warm up for about 20 minutes

You need to apply "CHOKE" when first starting up, you can ride while warming up, remember to push in or turn it off.

If automatic choke, if not a diy er, have scooter serviced, pointing out to the mechanic the possible faulty choke

2007 Kymco Xciting 500: Jumper cables were reversed. Replaced battery and all fuses. Now the battery discharges, battery charge light in dash is not on, even when engine is not running. Also speedo needle...

the stator produces ac current and the voltage regulator/ rectifier converts the ac current to dc current and keeps your battery charged.

So its probably your voltage regulator.
when engine is off the battery should read 12.5 volts
At idle the baterry should read 12.8+ volts
at 2000 rpm battery should read 13.0 - 14.8 volts

if your not getting those readings your voltage regulator is bad.
you can find them at parts for scooters dot com pretty cheap and they ship fast.

as for the speedo, you may be able to take apart and reset the needle. Some you can't even get to.
so you may have to get a new one.
