Hello all, I was just wondering how to fix an apparent open throttle on a 1982 Honda cb750 Nighthawk 750?

We removed the carb. bank and rebuilt carbs. We also got new boots from carbs to engine and we checked the carb. slides. Also within the last three weeks I put 735 miles on the bike. Bike was running fine last Wednesday. This morning when I turned on the bike after a few attempts to start the bike. Very normal for my bike. It fired up and the rpms went to 4000 and would not come down. I then turned the bike off and played around with the idle set screw, which did not have an effect on the rpms. I could see the throttle cables return to the original position, but yet the rpms went straight to 5000. It seems like the more I started it the higher the rpms rose. Could anybody give me some help or an explanation to what happened? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!! Have a good day!

I suspect that the throttle cable is out of the end setting from removing and replacing the carbs or a return spring for the cable has broken off and not pulling the throttle back to idle position
