On two seperate occassions, my 1988 HD FXRS seemed to lose power suddenly on the freeway - It went from 70 mph to 15 mph without shifting down from fifth. I attempted shifting through all gears but nothing happened. I limped it off the freeway and after continuing to shift through all the gears for about a mile, the gears seemed to start to engage again and I was able to ride again normally. Now I also notice that once I shift into third gear or higher, if I gun the throttle, the rpm rev way up but the bike takes a couple of seconds before it will accelerate to the appropriate speed. Any ideas?

The latter part sounds like insufficient play on the clutch lever--the clutch seems to be slipping. Sudden power loss is usually linked to the ignition system. Have you checked the lube level in the transmission? You could be having a bearing seizure if the lube is low.

1988 Chevrolet Beretta. It suddenly lost power about 60 mph. No gas pedal at all decreased speed and about 20 mph it ran fine, runs good at dead stop.

I really need to know what size engine you have in your Beretta as well as how many gears are on the shifter as in low one low two Drive with a circle around it or one two three drive with a circle around it sounds to me like a torque converter pressure switch when vehicle is shifting into overdrive switch is not operating correctly releasing pressure from torque converter causing vehicle not to have enough counterweight for transmission until vehicle slows down and then will operate again shifting through gears until the Overdrive goes to kick in send more info

Bogs down with little acceleration

run fault codes and look for accelerator position sensor and MAF/MAP problems. Have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to check for pump, pressure regulator and filter problems.

when you travel over 65 mhr for long lenghts of time you don,t work the engine enough to move the fluid to lubricate the engine also when you go on long trips make sure the oil life is still gonna be good for the hole trip

I would really have that exhaust checked again, as well as have mechanic put fuel pressure gauge on & drive it up to that speed and see what happens fuel pressure wise. With exhaust, it's not only cat converter that could be causing reduced flow.

My 1999 Silverado all of a sudden did not change gears. I was on the freeway and my RPMs went from 1500 to 3000 at 70 MPH

What does it do right now? Does it have all it's gears? What's missing? Does it back up? Does it stay in 1st?

'02' Chevy Malibu loss of power

how it seems that your problem is in the tranmission. has the transmission ever had the fluid changed in it? if not then i would have it checked out and changed. it might even be a bad sensor causing the engine to free spin and not engage the transmission i would defently have the transmission checked out.
