1989 Ford Econoline 150 Van will not start

Most all vehicles have main power cable to starter solenoid which is mounted on the starter where the power cable to the switch connects OR there is a separate heavy gauge red wire connected to the positive post of the battery that leads to the ignition switch. Also check your ground cable by connecting battery jumper cable to negative post on battery and other end to metal frame of van.

1988 lincoln car will mot start battery is fine

Check your starter relay, it is mounted to the fenderwell near the battery. On the relay there is a terminal labeled "S" take that wire loose and check for power when the key is turned to start, if there is power you need a relay, if there is none you have and ignition switch or safety neutral switch problem.

97 jetta 4 cylinder will not turn over. All power on when turn key to start but nothing happens. Tryied to jump battery didnt work. Could it be the ignition switch? when turn to to start head lights dimb...

Check, clean and tighten your battery posts, and the power connection to the starter and ground. Make certain the battery is good and charged, Perhaps you have a bad starter motor, or the engine is frozen (will not turn over). I think the ignition switch is okay, because your lights dim when you try to start. This indicates power is getting to the starter (at least some).

STARTING

check starter for power on main battery wire and on smaller wire from ignition switch while someone turns the key if your getting power on both wires it's the starter if you want you can also tap on the starter and starter solenoid while the key is being turned and see if it starts but it does sound like starter to me if your not getting power to the starter on the small wire make sure your alarm isn't interfering and check ignition switch
