What could be the 'Metal-on-metal' noise coming from the motor of a BMW 2010 R1200 GS motorcycle, when it is started from cold.-Part 2 of original question.

Thankyou for your answer to my original question-much appreciated. I neglected to add enough detail, so here goes! As stated in my last query about this noise, it occurred when my bike was started from cold outside temp. was approx. 20 degrees C, after being in a garage for approximately a week. I have started it many times from cold previously and had never heard the noise in the 4000kms I have ridden it, and have not heard it on the two occasions since, that I have started it from cold. I am a conservative rider, no wheelies, gunning the motor etc do not go over 70mph 125kph on the road and maintain the bike meticulously. The motor is an oil-cooled twin-cylinder with a total of 14000kms on the clock I bought it second-hand. A BMW mechanic told me that the bike can sit for some time without needing to have the motor turned over to get the oil moving around it, so I am thinking that lack of oil dispersion around the motor may not be the issue. It has a single-plate dry clutch. The noise was a 'clacking' sound, lasted 10 secs. and went away. It did not sound like a cam chain rattle, as I have heard that noise many times. The manual tells owners to not let the motor idle too long before riding it (enough time to put helmet and gloves on) and I follow this procedure. The gear shifting has not altered since the noise initially and it is decisive but a little clunky (this is the normal shifting sound apparently). Any suggestions? Thanks again

How do i change the cam belt on a 2007 bmw r1200gs adventure motorbike

There is no cam belt. Cams are chain driven and you have to remove and strip the entire motor to change the chains.

2000 BMW R1200 with rear clicking noise

  1. check for a stone in the thread of the tyre.
  2. Next check, When you hear the noise pull in the clutch and check if there is any change in the noise, this will indicate if the engine or gear box is involved.

A creaking noise appears to be coming from the rear suspension on my BMW R1200 GS 2007 model

I would find out where it is coming from as we don't want any cracked welds on the frame!
