I replaced the right side head on my 2001 mustang gt and i need to know how to set up the timming so it will run right

Hi, this engine user copper links on the chain align the copper links with the marks shown on the diagram below. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

To install:
  1. Compress the timing chain tensioner plunger in a soft jaw vise and install a retaining clip to hold the plunger in place.
  2. Remove the tensioner.
  3. If the copper links are not visible on the timing chains, mark one link on each end of the chain.
  4. Install the left and right timing chain guides and tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  5. Position the lower end of the left timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the copper link with the timing mark on the outer flange of the crankshaft sprocket.
  6. Position the timing chain on the left camshaft sprocket with the camshaft sprocket timing mark aligned with the copper link.
  7. Position the left timing chain tensioner arm on the dowel pin and install the timing chain tensioner. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8. Remove the retaining clip from the tensioner plunger.
  9. Position the lower end of the right timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the copper link with the timing mark on the outer flange of the crankshaft sprocket.
  10. Position the timing chain on the right camshaft sprocket with the camshaft sprocket timing mark aligned with the copper link.
  11. Position the left timing chain tensioner arm on the dowel pin and install the timing chain tensioner. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12. Remove the retaining clip from the tensioner plunger.
  13. Ensure correct alignment of all timing chain links and sprocket timing marks.
  14. Install the camshaft roller followers and tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts. See the procedure under Camshaft.
  15. Install the crankshaft sensor ring on the crankshaft.

  16. Apply sealant to the front cover mating surface as shown.

  17. Install a new gasket on the front cover, then install the front cover and hand tighten the bolts.
  18. Tighten the front cover bolts in the sequence shown to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  19. Tighten the front cover-to-oil pan bolts in the sequence shown to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm), plus an additional 60 degrees

  20. Lubricate the engine front cover and oil seal lip with clean engine oil and install the seal using a seal installer.
  21. Apply sealant to the Woodruff key slot in the crankshaft pulley, then press on the crankshaft damper.
  22. Tighten the crankshaft damper as follows:
    1. Step 1: 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
    2. Step 2: Loosen the bolt one full turn.
    3. Step 3: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    4. Step 4: 90 degrees.

  23. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
  24. Install the power steering pump and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  25. Install the wiring harness retainer to the power steering stud bolt.
  26. Install the power steering pump pulley shield.
  27. Install the water pump pulley.
  28. Install the J bracket to the engine front cover stud bolt.
  29. Install both left and right camshaft position sensor connectors.
  30. Install both left and right radio interference capacitors.
  31. Connect the hoses from the coolant crossover.
  32. Install the valve covers. See the procedure under Cylinder Head.
  33. Install the right side idler pulley.
  34. Install the accessory drive belt.
  35. Install the coolant degas bottle.
  36. Connect the negative battery cable.
  37. Fill the crankcase with clean engine oil.
  38. Start the engine. Check for leaks and proper operation.

How to reset timeing on a 1991 chevy lumina 3.1

Timing is not resettable by the user, as the computer controls this based on knock or no knock conditions which will advance or ****** ignition timing for optimum performance.

The valve timing is something that is set when installing the timing chain:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the timing chain front cover assembly, as outlined earlier in this section.
  3. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket locator hole are aligned to the marks on the engine block or timing chain dampener. This is the No. 1 piston at TDC (No. 4 firing position).
  4. Unfasten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt/screw, then remove the camshaft sprocket and the timing chain. NOTE: If the camshaft sprocket does not come off easily, a light blow on the lower edge of the sprocket with a rubber mallet should loosen the sprocket.
  5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket using tool J 23444-A or equivalent puller.
  6. If necessary, remove the timing chain dampener retaining bolts, then remove the dampener. To install:
  7. Install the crankshaft sprocket using tool J 38612 until it the sprocket is fully seated on the flange of the crankshaft nose. Apply a coat of Molykote® or equivalent, to the sprocket thrust surface.
  8. Hold the camshaft sprocket with the chain hanging down, and align the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
  9. If removed, install the timing chain damper to the engine block.
  10. Align the dowel in the camshaft with the dowel hole in the camshaft sprocket. Install the camshaft sprocket and chain, use the camshaft sprocket bolts to draw the sprocket on to the camshaft. Tighten the sprocket bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  11. Lubricate the timing chain with engine oil.
  12. Install the front cover assembly, as outlined earlier in this section.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.

Timing Chain Replacement procedure steps

1. Jack up front of vehicle and support on safety stands. Remove left front wheel.
2. Remove alternator/water pump drive belt. Remove water pump pulley.
3. Remove A/C belt if equipped.
4. Remove valve cover.
5. Remove upper timing belt cover.
6. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC compression stroke and camshaft sprocket timing marks align with edge of cylinder head. "UP" cast on sprocket will be at top when sprocket is in correct position. Crankshaft may be rotated using a socket wrench inserted through access hole in left fender well (engine rotates counterclockwise).
7. Unbolt and remove crank pulley. Remove rubber seal washers from belt tensioner pivot and adjustment bolts protruding through lower belt cover. Remove belt cover retaining bolts and remove cover from below.
8. Remove concave belt retainer from end of crankshaft. If timing belt is to be reused, mark direction of rotation before removing.
9. Loosen belt tensioner pivot and adjustment bolts. Push tensioner away from belt and retighten adjustment bolt to hold tensioner in this position. Remove belt.
10. Insert a suitable tool through cam sprocket and brace against cylinder head. Remove bolt and pull sprocket from camshaft.
11. Without dislodging key, install new sprocket on camshaft. Torque bolt to 22 ftlb (30 Nm).
12. Install new timing belt by starting at crank gear and working it over cam sprocket in clockwise direction. Ensure that timing marks are properly aligned.
13. Release tensioner by loosening adjustment bolt. After tensioner contacts belt, retighten bolt.
14. Rotate engine at least one full turn (counterclockwise) and check that timing marks are aligned. Loosen adjustment bolt and allow tensioner to take out any remaining belt slack. Torque adjustment and pivot bolts to 22 ftlb (30 Nm).
15. Install remaining components in reverse order of removal. Torque fasteners to following values:

CAUTION
The 2.0L engine is an interference motor. Extending the replacement interval could lead to the belt breaking and severe and costly engine damage. Care must be taken if rotating the crankshaft or camshafts with the belt off, if resistance is felt, do not force them to turn.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the timing belt covers as outlined in this Section.
  3. Remove the valve cover.
  4. Place Camshaft Alignment Timing Tool T94P-6256-CH or equivalent, into the slots of both camshafts at the rear of the cylinder head to lock the camshafts into position. NOTE: If the special tool is unavailable, a suitable length and width straight edge can be used to align the camshafts.
  5. Loosen the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt and move the tensioner pulley to relieve the tension on the timing belt.
  6. Temporarily tighten the tensioner in this position. NOTE: If the timing belt is to be reused, mark the belt for the direction of rotation before removing to prevent premature wear or failure.
  7. Remove the timing belt.
  8. If required, remove the sprockets as follows:
    1. Hold the camshaft with an appropriate camshaft sprocket holding tool.
    2. Loosen and remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt.
    3. Remove the sprocket from the camshaft.
    4. Repeat the procedure for the 2nd camshaft sprocket.
    5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
  9. Slide the crankshaft sprocket onto the crankshaft aligning the key-way.
  10. Align the camshafts using the Camshaft Alignment Timing Tool T94P-6256-CH. NOTE: If the special tool is unavailable, a suitable length and width straight edge can be used to align the camshafts.
  11. Reinstall the sprockets onto the camshafts and loosely install the camshaft retaining bolts.
  12. Tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts to 47–53 ft. lbs. (64–72 Nm) .
  13. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley to verify that the engine is at TDC. Realign the marks if they have moved.
  14. Verify that the camshafts are aligned. NOTE: It is recommended to purchase a tensioner spring and retaining bolt through the dealer parts to apply the proper tension for used or new belt installations. The spring is bolted to the tensioner assembly and becomes a part of the engine. Ignore this notice if the tensioner spring is already installed.
  15. Reinstall the retaining bolt (W700001-S309) into the hole provided in the cylinder block and place the tensioner spring (6L277) between the bolt and the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley.
  16. Tighten the retainer bolt to 71–97 inch lbs. (8–11 Nm) .
  17. Remove the crankshaft pulley and install the timing belt onto the crankshaft sprocket, then onto the camshaft sprockets working in a counterclockwise direction.
  18. Tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts to 47–53 ft. lbs. (64–72 Nm) .
  19. Be sure that the span of the camshaft timing belt between the crankshaft sprocket and the exhaust camshaft sprocket is not loose.
  20. Be sure that the camshaft timing belt is securely aligned on all sprockets.
  21. Reinstall the lower timing belt cover and tighten the retaining bolts to 53–71 inch lbs. (6–8 Nm) .
  22. Apply silicone sealer to the key-way of the crankshaft pulley and install. Tighten the retaining bolt to 81–89 ft. lbs. (110–120 Nm) .
  23. Inspect the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley to verify that the engine is still at TDC.
  24. Loosen the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt and allow the tensioner spring attached to the pulley to draw the tensioner pulley against the camshaft timing belt.
  25. Remove the camshaft alignment timing tool from the camshafts at the rear of the engine.
  26. Turn the crankshaft two revolutions in a clockwise direction.
  27. Tighten the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt to 26–30 ft. lbs. (35–40 Nm) .
  28. Recheck that the crankshaft timing mark is at TDC for the No. 1 piston, and that both camshafts are in alignment using the camshaft alignment timing tool. NOTE: A slight adjustment of the camshafts to allow the insertion of the camshaft alignment timing tool is permissible as long as the crankshaft stays at the TDC location.
  29. An appropriate camshaft sprocket holding tool can be used to move the camshaft sprocket (s) if a slight adjustment is required.
  30. If a camshaft is not properly aligned, perform the following procedure:
    1. Loosen the retaining bolt securing the sprocket to the camshaft while holding the camshaft sprocket from turning with the sprocket holding tool.
    2. Turn the camshaft until the camshaft alignment timing tool can be installed.
    3. Verify that the crankshaft timing mark is at TDC for the No. 1 cylinder.
    4. While holding the camshaft sprocket with the camshaft sprocket holding tool, tighten the retaining bolt to 47–53 ft. lbs. (64–72 Nm) .
    5. Remove the tool and rotate the crankshaft two revolutions (clockwise) .
    6. Verify that the camshafts are aligned and that the crankshaft is at TDC for the No. 1 cylinder.
  31. Install the valve cover.
  32. Install the timing belt covers.

HI, 1ST PLACE BIKE ON THE STAND REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION, YOU MAY NEED SOMEONE TO HELP YOU FOR A MOMENT, PUT THE MACHINE IN GEAR, THIS WILL ALOWE YOU TO UNDO THE SECURING NUT WITHOUT TURNING THE FRONT SPROCKET AT THE SAME TIME IF SOME 1 HOLDS DOWN THE REAR BRAKE THIS WILL ALSO HELP, ITS AN EASY TASK,ON SOME MODELS FAIRING SIDE PANNEL MAY NEED REMOVING, UNDO THE 8MM RETAINING BOLTS HOLDING THE COVER OVER THE SPROCKET, SOME OF THEM ALSO GO THROUGH THE SLAVE CYLINDER FOR THE CLUTCH, WHEN U ARE HAPPY ALL THE BOLTS ARE REMOVED GENTLY PRISE OFF THE SPROCKET COVER, THIS CAN SOMETIMES STICK SLIGHTLY ON THE DOWELS, WARNING NO EXSESS FORCE SHOULD BE USED TO REMOVE THE COVER IF ITS TIGHT THEN RE CHECK ALL THE BOLTS ARE REMOVED, WHEN COVER IS FREE LIFT UP AND TIE TO 1 SIDE LEAVING THE CLUTCH CYLINDER CONECTED.   1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. For 1991 vehicles, perform the following:
    1. Remove the starter motor and flywheel cover.
    2. Remove oil pan retaining nuts and bolts. Remove lower frame and powertrain onto transmission table.
  4. Remove the front cover, as outlined earlier this section.
  5. Matchmark the intermediate sprocket, chain link, front face of cylinder and crank sprocket for reference.
  6. Retract the timing chain tensioner shoe by using J–33875 or equivalent, on both sides of the tensioner and pulling on the thru pin in the tensioner arm to retract the spring. While spring is retracted, insert a holding tool to hold it.
  7. Remove the timing chain tensioner retaining bolts.
  8. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  9. Remove the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket and intermediate sprocket using tools J 8433 and J 28611, as shown in the accompanying figure. If the intermediate gear does not slide off easily with the timing chain assembly, rotate the crankshaft back and forth to loosen the tight fit.
  10. If necessary, remove the timing chain tensioner. To install:
  11. Check to ensure that crankshaft key is installed and fully seated and the chain tensioner is fully installed and blade retracted.
  12. Slip both sprockets and chain over the proper shaft and engage the slot in the key. The intermediate shaft may move against the rear cover. Slide the sprocket and chain on the shafts, maintaining the proper alignment shown in the accompanying figure. While installing note the following:
    1. Make sure the rubber and tension blade of the tensioner does not become caught, misaligned, or dislodged.
    2. The large chamfer and counterbore of the crankshaft sprocket are installed towards the crankshaft. The intermediate sprocket spline sockets are installed away from the case.
    3. The crankshaft sprocket must be pressed on for the final 0.31 in. (8mm) to the seated position using tool J38612 or equivalent, as shown in the accompanying figure.
    4. Check to make sure timing was maintained. Remove the retaining pin from tensioner.
  13. For 1991 vehicles, install the oil pan retaining nuts and bolts, and the flywheel cover and starter.
  14. Install the front cover, as outlined earlier in this section.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Yes, these rims will fit in. Series 200/700/900 inter changeable except for 960 model.
