If I get it up to 50, and manage to get it to shift, it stays at high rpms, but then tries to downshift. not sure if it's the solenoids or the speed sensor. accelerates slowly, has high RPMs (3k at 45 MPH, 2.5K at 30 mph) What could be causing this?
SOURCE: Hello,
there is a malfunction in the transmission somewhere. this is a problem you cannot fix in a basic garage because of the diagnosis tools needed for this trans. diagnosis. could be bad TV cable adjustment if not anything major. durango transmissions usually dont last past 100,000 miles.
SOURCE: trans not shifting
your transmission has a vacumn modulator on the side it requires vacumn from the engine to shift make sure the vacumn hose from the trans to the engine is plugged on and working, if that is correct then step 2 is the governer which would require a tranny shop to check, but id bet on the vacumn line give it a try! good luck and thankx billy

i had that problem on a 93 escort and it was because the woodruff key that holds the harmonic balancer in place was broken, the poopy acceleration was because the crank sensor gets its "signal" from cogs on the harmonic balancer, which did not turn at the same speed as the crank shaft because of the drag on the crank pully (crank pully and harmonic balancer are same part)

sounds like trans has gone bad, last service of filter and fluid? clogged screen or low/burnt fluid would effest but if clunking sounds like trans is shot

have you checked the transmission fluid level?
Chris Naugle, it's full, and the filter is new. Even added a bottle of Lucas to it to see it that would help. No dice. did some more research, and it's looking like the solenoids are the culprit.
