Why does engine run rich at times under acceleration?

not enough detail
to get an engine to accelerate , the air /fuel mixture is moved to rich in accordance with engine rpms
the more rpms the richer until the peak rpms are reached
( accelerator pump-power valve in carbies and ECM settings according to accelerator position
black exhaust smoke in diesels
so if you press the accelerator slowly then the air/fuel mixture is altered constantly in relation to the pedal setting
If you floor the pedal then it moves to rich and you get black exhaust smoke until the air mixture is again in balance

1987 threequrter ton chevy 350 moter with quadura jet carb running rich an smokeing

either the float is sticking, when it is running use the back of a screwdriver and rap the bowl and see if this helps, or the jets need adjusted, start with the right one first, turn in untill the motor starts to lag then open it up untill the rpm stops climbing, do the same with the left one also, see if this helps. let me know.

Unburnt fuel come out of muffler while saw is running

There is a number of reasons why this can happen, running the saw on too rich a fuel oil mix, most modern two stroke oil is ok to run at 50-1, air filter blocked creating over fueling, clean the filter, carb mixture screws set too rich, re set the H screw on the carb, carb flooding due to needle leaking, service carb, ignition system fault, miss firing, replace plug, or ignition unit.
Always try the easy stuff first before fitting new parts.

Honda rebel running very rich, how to fix it?

First, make sure your air cleaner is not plugged or dirty. This will cause a rich mixture. Next make sure the choke is completely off when bike is running. Gas is not leaking past the choke plunger seal. If the mixture needs to be adjusted , it is the screw under neath the carburetor, up front by the intake manifold. Before making any adjustments, count the number of turns IN, before the air screw seats lightly. This should be the factory setting. Call a dealer and find out what the standard setting should be. Start there and make minor adjustments(1/8 turns) till you get the spark plug color you desire.

I have the Suzuki GS 750E, the spark plugs are constantly becoming fouled, how do i correct this problem

sounds like its running to rich, check your air filter is clean, set your carb mixture ,
turn the screws in untill they bottom out ,but dont turn to hard !(they have a fine needle point end and are easy to break leaving the broken point inside the carb making adjustment impossible )back all four screws out 1.5 turns and start from there.run the bike and adjust from there to rich turn out to lean ( weak turn in )

www.thegsresources.com a good web site for these bikes.

good luck

Its running too lean..there is a plastic cover over the carb adjustment screws

That may be to keep dirt out. One of the screws should be for the richness setting and the other for the idle speed.
Adjust the richness setting so the tool runs the best (fast) then turn the idle speed down to normal.
Make sure you always keep the air filter cleaned or dirt will get into the carb and cause you to have to clean out the jets in the carb.

My honda 400 bros is not runing right 1 plug is wet the rest is sutted up as if runing rich what would think it is

Sooted plugs proves tht the air-mixture is too rich.(too much fuel going to the combustion chamber)
You have to set the air-mixture screw on the carb/s.
Clean the carb/s, replace 'inline' filter , if you don't have one ..install one, reset float level.
It's better to also check the valve clearance too.
Fit in new plugs (gapping them to specs.) and run the engine to its normal temperature thn set the air-mixture screw...standard setting....all the way in i.e. tighten it slowly to the end making sure not to damage the tip of the screw, thn 2 and half turns outwards to 3.
Start the engine....run to normal temperature and thn reset the air-mixture screw +/- either way.
Hope this helps!

My 351 is running rich

use the air and gas flow adjustments on the side of the carburator to adjust the rich/lean flow of gas. there is a srew on each side of the carb to adjust one is for air the other for fuel. the one on the driversside is for the fuel and the one on the passenger side is for air. you have to turn them slowly til you get the desired results
