Greetings. My gearing on my new (to me) BMW F800 GS is causing me headaches, mostly in and out of second gear. Sometimes I can't get into it, sometimes I can't get out of it. The problems seems to be that the gear lever doesn't click in when I shift. My temporary solution: lightly tapping down on the gear lever when in first or second, which appears to complete the process of the lever automatically floating down to prepare for the move to the next gear. Occasionally I cannot move up or down and find myself in some kind of mushy void, usually in second or third. It appears that the gear level is a little loose -- meaning I can move it laterally toward or away from the engine. But I do not know if this is normal or not.
The bike has 4000 miles. I bought it last month, with 1500 miles already on it. Rode from SE England down to Tuscany, back up via the Alps to Paris, where I am now. The problem really kicked in during the right turns of the Alps, and now in the city driving of Paris. No dealer or mechanic help: It's a long weekend, Bastille Day.
Thoughts on problems, solutions? I may need to step out, and if so will check back ...
Much appreciated... Mark
