1979 MX100. What is the float height setting on a Mikuni 3M100 carburetor?

As has been explained previously, the most common float level check is done with the carby off the bike and held in the horizontal plane, using a piece of tubing on the fuel inlet and gently blowing in the tube while at the same time raising and lowering the float to find the point at which you cannot blow into the tube. The float should be sitting in a horizontal position at that point. If it isn't you need to adjust the tab that locates the needle valve that shuts off the fuel. This is a rule of thumb adjustment only.

Adjust mikuni carb float

Pull the float bowl and float bowl gasket off the carburetor.
Place the carburetor upside down and let the float rest against the float needle.
Measure the distance between the gasket surface located on the bottom of the carburetor to the edge of the float. On a 24 mm Mikuni card, the distance between the gasket surface and the float should be 1 inch. On a 20 mm Mikuni carburetor it should be 7/8-inch.
Bend the metal tab on the float that rests against the float needle. Bend it towards the float needle if the measurement is shallow and away from the needle if the measurement is too much.
Use a pair of needle-nose pliers, making very small adjustments to the metal tab and then recheck the measurement.

Mikuni ucal carburetor diagrams

Many things can cause this;
check the following.

1. trash(including rust in the tank if metal) in the tank/carb. If the carb set for more than 6 months it may need the fuel system cleaned out(includes the carb). Putting a filter in the system will not take care of the rust problem in most cases. If the tank is metal and has rust it will need a tank liner kit like the brand "kreem" or the equivalent.
2. the needle/seat combination and/or float is incorrectly set or bad causing that fuel level to get high in the bowl. Check the float height according to the manual or replace the float/needle/seat.
3. bad seat o ring if it has one and also a petcock that does not shut off. If you can jog the seat around in the carb, then the o ring is probably bad. If you disconnect the fuel line from the carb and gas still comes out, the petcock is most likely bad or it has trash in it.

Float setting for BS34ss carb

I have a set my float to 22.0 +- 1.0 for a Mikuni carb.
To set floats, drain the carbs, pull the carbs from the bike invert and remove float bowl.
With the carb inverted, take off the float bowls. Take off the gasket. Use a vernier caliper or an accurate device to measure from the carb body to the top of the float block.
Here is are a couple of good sites about carbs and such.
