Dave:
Your #1 cylinder ( the front cylinder) is not firing. It could be that the spark plug is fouled or improperly gapped, or the carburetor is not delivering gas to the cylinder. pull both spark plugs Clean the plugs and gap them. The gap should be about 0.035 In. (thirty five thousandths). Reconnect the wires to the spark plugs. Lay the spark plugs against the outside of the cylinders with the metal part of the spark plug body touching the cylinder (creating the ground part of the circuit). push the starter and look for spark at both spark plugs. If you have spark at both plugs, put them back in and start the bike and check the exhaust pipes to see if they are both hot. If one is still cold, the carburetor for that cylinder is not delivering gas. Could be a kinked or clogged fuel line, disconnect the fuel line from that carburetor and see if gasoline flows out. If gas flows out, the carburetor needs to be tuned or removed and cleaned.

Ignition mystery! 1994 GMC Suburban 2500 5.7 mtr. No spark to spark plugs. Have spark from coil to distributor. Have changed coil wire, cap, rotor, ignition module, and coil. have 12.5 volts going to...

I guess you could have the ignition analyzed on an oscilloscope. Maybe a tech could see something then.
I always heard the only gap was the spark plug gap-the rotor has no gap-are you sure you got the correct rotor? And does it touch the top distributor cap coil wire tower?

Let us know. It is a mystery worthy of a solution.

I have a 1998 royal star 1294cc 3 of the exhaust pipes get and one is cold

The cylinder of the cold pipe isn't firing, Check the spark plug and the spark plug gap. Also check the plug wire for that cylinder.

Why does only 1 exhaust pipe on my ninja 250 get hot

Try unplugging one spark plug at a time and see if the engine will run on just left and just right cylinder. The cylinder thatwont run may have a clogged carburator or the valves may be too tight causing a low/no compression on that cyliner. Also a vacuum leak at an intake boot would cause a lean condition and a hot cylinder. Be certain you have spark at both ( properly gapped) spark plugs before **** these tests.

My 1985 mazda rx 7 1.1 gets glowing hot where exhust comes out of the motor , replaced exhust pipe and muffler but didn't help have any suggestions

Hi,
Check the ignition timing.
Make sure the fuel you are using is specified for engine use.
Last one will be to check the catalytic converter if it still open.

Hope that helps!

My carbs seems not functioning well,i tried to clean it thoroughly but somehow only one of the two's giving the fire

Hi, how is your spark plug condition, is it in primo condition?
Most spark plugs are resistor types, so when they are not working it just died.
One way I find is good indicator is, now you know that one is firing and one is not, right?.
1.Take one spark plug out at a time, clean them make sure that their anode are clean from soot and oil, it is not wet by unburned fule droplets.gap the plugs to factory recommended gap..
2. Write a "1" on the first one you took out then mark "2" on the second one.
3. Switch them around and see if the one that earlier didnot want to fire will work in the new position.
4. How to tell which works or not. You know which one works in the beginning when you started the bike before you gap and cleaned it. Keep the exhaust pipe from that working cylinder in mind.
5. After you cleand and gap it properly you swith their location and now check which exhaust pipe cylinder got hot.
6. If the same exhaust cylinder got hot as in the begining then your coil is not giving electrical pulses to fire the spark plug.
7. If it heats up the dead exhaust pipe then you spark plug needs replacing, and do replace both of them together..
8. Now to tackle your carb, you had done a very thorough clean up in you carb, meaning, ensuring your carb float level is correct, the main and idle jet needles are clean from gunks, no air leaks in your bowl diaphragm. Your fuel flows correctly without obstruction from the tank meaning the fuel flow tap is wide open .
9. Your battery state is fully charged.
10. With all that, you should have no problem.
Cheers. Don't forget to mark this advise.

How does rhe hot and cold water hook up on a 71-40d which is which top and bottom

Tanks are marked with Hot and Cold.
1) If water connections are on top of tank, look for red marking or word HOT that shows where hot water pipe connects. Look for blue marking or word COLD that shows cold water connection.
2) If water connections are on side of tank, cold water connects to bottom one, and hot connects to top.

3) If hot and cold are reversed, the tank will not work.
Pipes on top of tank: cold water enters tank and is sent to bottom of tank in a long tube called the dip tube. This means the cold is on the bottom since hot water rises to the top. The hot water exits top of tank.
Pipes on side of tank: You want cold water to enter bottom, so hot water naturally rises to the top outlet.

Bmw 316i automatic 1996. have had head skimmed white smoke coming from exhust the top pipe from raditor is hot but hard the bottom pipe is cold. the oil in head is a caramel cream colour. have put a new...

You have a bad head gasket. You are leaking coolant into the engine block through the cylinders. This is why you have white smoke, and the extra coolant that doesnt get burned off is going into your oil.

Spark plug gap

Notice: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage or cylinder head damage.
Gap the spark plug, using round wire type spark plug gap gage.

Gap Adjust the spark plug gap to 1.14 mm (0.045 in).

DO NOT coat the spark plugs with anti seize compound. Over torquing could occur and damage to the cylinder head threads may result.

If your going to use Platnum plugs, DO NOT GAP them. Just check the gap and if there not the right gap, ask for new one's with the right gap.

The metal on the PLatnum plugs, are harder and my break apart in the cylinder .

Good luck and hope this helps
