Water pump whole shaft came out complete with impellor

Hi mate this will be the oil & water seals the leak from weep hole is basically a warning light to tell you it needs replacing asap, you need to remove impellor, carefull not to lose the spacer washer behind it...then remove the water seal clean the surface it came from and replace with new seal. Now to do this 100% I would always replace the impeller shaft as the shaft wearing is usually what caused the seal to fail and I would also replace the oil seal which is the other side of case that you just changed the water seal (oil seal sits behind the small bearing) I would also consider replacing this bearing but maybe not critical? all up the impellor shaft the 2 seals and bearing last time I bought cost about $160... no special tools required just quite a bit of time required as you should really remove the outer engine case to access the impellor to undo it and to get to the oil seal and bearing, how ever I know guys do just open the water pump cover then rattle gun off the impellor only replace the water seal then install the impellor and cover back on then ride away! this will work and will fix the leak but is definitely the incorrect way to repair this and will be temporary fix but thought you may like to know this alternative as is very handy way to do it if your on a race meeting and just need to get through the last race or two.

yes steve- this is the water pump by-pass hole. There is a secondary backup al behind it to stop the water entring the gearbox. Replace the waterpump seal. Most suzukis' use a mechanical seal. they are prity easy to change- although usually requires removal of the clutch cover. I always replace the mechanical seal, back up seal & the bearing all at once.If it is a standard seal type- be sure to ckeck the shaft of the impellor for groves worn in it where the seal contacts the shaft - in mechanical type seals this does not apply.

remove clutch cover,hold water pump shaft on flats on shaft and undo impellor by nut cast on impellor. remove old bearings and seals.check shaft for grooving where seal runs and replace if any.assemble in reverse order with new seals and bearings etc

I found out that the pump impeller can be unscrewed from the motor shaft by turning the impeller while keeping the shaft from rotating. There is a brass shaft coupling embedded in the back side of the impeller. This allowed me to remove the leaking seal assembly inside the pump by tapping it out gently. However, instead of just replacing the seal, I decided to replace the entire pump with a newer version. Cost was only about $25 more than replacing the seal and gaskets. The pump-motor assembly has been reinstalled in the spa and there are no more leaks.

Iv'e changed heaps of these.Follow these steps taking carefull note of where & how everything goes to make it easy to put back together. make sketches if necessary.

• Drain the coolant & engine oil
• Remove the hoses that go to the water pump
• remove the waterpump cover
• remove the impellor
• remove the kickstarter
• remove the clutch cover & locating dowel pins if they are still in the clutch cover(if they didn't stay in the crank case)
• the water pump seal is a (ceramic) two piece unit
• remove the ceramic disc & rubber holder from the back of the impellor
• remove the impellor drive shaft from the clutch cover
• behind the impellor drive shaft there is a small bearing. To remove this I heat around the alloy of the bearing with a heat gun (or butaine gas torch,if using an oxy torch use a small tip & take care to heat evenly & not melt anything/or heat in an oven to 80 to 100 degrees max)Use welding gloves to handle the hot clutch cover)
• turn the cover over & whack it down on a flat piece of wood(9 times out of 10 this is enough to shock out the bearing
• remove the back-up seal from behind the bearing you just removed noteing the direction it was facing(for reassembly)
• now using a suitable drift,knock out the other half of the mechanical seal
• scrape all the gaskets & clean the parts
• check the impellor drive shaft to make sure the shaft is smooth & dosn't have any groves worn in it.If it does you'll have to replace it
• I always fit a new impellor bearing & back-up seal & new gaskets when doing this job
• reassembly is reverse of removal noting the following
• to install the bearing & seals use a socket that matches the OUTSIDE diamiter of them so you don't damage them.To install the rubber cup & ceramic washer into the impellor DON'T use a drift just push them in by hand
• apply some grease to the impellor shaft before installing it
• Apply some soap to the ceramic disc before re-fitting it
• to install the clutch cover, if it won't go on at the front near the impellor, turn the impellor shaft to engage the gear
• refit kickstarter,waterpump cover,hoses
• re-fill radiator with fresh coolant
• re-fill gearbox with fresh gearbox oil

That just about covers it all

pumps can leak from a number of locations, if it's where the motor drive shaft goes into the water pump then it's the main mechanical pump seal, the seal is easily replaced but some brands need to be glued in with marine grade silicon. Remove the 2 piece (1 part would be on the impellor and the other in the pump housing) seal and bring it to your local pool/hot tub store to match up. There are only a couple commonly used so any shop should carry it. If there is extreme corrosion and difficulty taking things apart just bring in the whole thing to a pool shop for repair, to avoid breaking parts.

GET A SMALL SCREW DIVER IN BETWEEN THE SHAFT AND SEAL PRY IT OUT WITH OUT DAMAGING THE SHAFT THEN USE A SOCKET FROM A TOOL KIT THAT FITS PERFECTLY AROUND THE EDGE OF THE NEW SEAL TO HAMMER IT BACK IN

That impeller may have been pressed on; good luck.

One of the most common question that I get on a dishwasher repair is "how does that motor and pump impellor screw come out?"
Inside many dishwasher pump assemblies is a screw that goes through the upper impellor and screws directly into the motor shaft. Since the motor shaft and screw are made of metal...you guessed it...they can / will rust. The screw can rust and become very tight and difficult to remove!! These screws are normally a right ( regular ) hand thread, socket or nut driver can be used to remove the screw. One hard thing to do is to hold the impellor still so the screw can be removed, they often just turn together. The impellor may be jammed with a screwdriver to hold it still so the screw can be removed...sometimes the impellor can be help still by placing a rag on it and hold tight with your hand, the rag will help prevent a sharp edge on the impellor from cutting your fingers. The odd time that screw is too rusted into place, soaking a little rust buster or 3in1 oil on it over night may help loosen it. Sometimes trying to tighten the screw a little at first will help break it free. There are some tool ( see below ) that can be purchased to help hold the impellor still so the screw can be removed, these are only for a few models and pump assembly styles.

Once the screw is removed, the next obstacle is the impellor can also get stuck onto the motor shaft. Many times I have to break off the old impellor. A sharp blow straight down with a hammer and flat screwdriver will often crack the plastic impellor...careful not to damage the pump body! If the motor shaft has indeed rusted, clean it up really good with sand cloth.

All jucuzzi pumps are some of the most difficult to repair.Pump front should seperate from body(volute) of pump by means of screws, or some kind of band. Diffuser should have ss screws, or
be held in plsce by notches or both. Impellor spins counter clockwise to come off. Can only remove impellor with impellor wrench, or very strong hand. Rear of motor must be held in place with normally a 7-16 wrench, allen head wrench or screwdriver. Depends on manufacturer of motor. Then impellor can be removed!
Should replace shaft seal under impellor. Can seperate body of pump from motor by turning four outer bolts on back of motor. Must mark rear cover of motor so lines up exact for reassebly. Ussually 1/4 inch socket wrench.Seal can be pushed out from back to front with the corrrect size socket and a very light hammer.
Try to factory Jacuzzi seal, they are better than aftermarket.
Coat rubber on seal with light silicone, and press back into place without touching or marring seal face. Best way is use other half of seal (spring piece) to gently but firmly reseat seal. Examine body from rear to make sure seal seats. Reassemble as taken apart, or just take to a qualified service tech at a well established pool/spa place. Kirk
