Not knowing all the details my guess would be to replace the alternator. The alternator can have a shorted rectifier which would cause the battery to drain.

When using a 3g ford alternator, can you put a switch in the system that will shut off the load?

no job (project) told what are you doing?
I guess this is dead stick question, (LoL no wind or too low RPM question )????????
it is not for a car or truck. is my wild guess,.
but came off a truck 3g ford alternator, is 1992 to 2004 alternator, ???
3G comes new in 30-+ models, up to 225 amps(RPM based always). and 6 or 8 wires,
modle 77xxxx or 82xxxx series best is tell he full part number you we will lie to you. OK
internal regulators and external versions both are made. and matters.
off a 2004 Mustang? 8wire?
yes you can put a switch in he stater wire or the rotor coil spool on external regulated,
but no model ALT told at all or the car it came off of , so no easy snap answers here, lacking such a key fact.
here is the 04mustang, stock OEM wiring of using a 3G 200amp upgrade.
the alternator is dead if pin1 one is open, (simulating key OFF in the car)

the reg is dead and alternator is dead, if pin 1 is cut, same as in the car,
But mY Spidy senses tell me it is no car here are all. or truck.
and I can tell you more secrets here if not used in a car ( untold hyper secrets)
the regulators i all or most alternators self excite themselves.
so if you want the Alternator off line , with no wind or low speed wind say so.
Alternators do go off line at below 500rpm (depends on pulley ratio to engine (alt rpm)
no RPM told at all. (nor load)

I have 2002 toyota sequoia that the battery light will come on intermittenly and the battery will start to discharge, alternator tested good

You need to have your battery load tested. Clean your battery terminals and apply some corrosion inhibitor. Make sure all your terminals are tight. Beyond that you will need to start tracing the power connections elsewhere for things like bad connections or grounds and connections at the alternator. An alternator can still be bad if the rectifier/regulator start breaking down once they get hot.

What are the signs to look for when your alternator is going bad

The car battery doesn't get charged properly and, over a few days of short trips it becomes discharged and won't start the car. You may notice the headlights becoming dim.

If the rectifier on the alternator fails the battery can become discharged within a matter of minutes.

If you have an alternator problem the best option is to take it to a workshop and let them check it and the battery . This saves buying replacement parts unnecessarily...

08 Petrol Hilux. stuck diesel in. it taken to mechanics they drained tanks, replaced fuel filter blew out lines and coolers had for a day engine light came on flat battery. Any ideas of problem??

If you realised it was diesel before you started to drive it probably wouldn't have taken long to rectify. Small amounts of diesel (or petrol in diesel) does not cause much of a problem and with care as much as 10% can be "got away with".

If you drove until it either stopped or was running so badly you couldn't proceed the problem becomes greater.

I doubt the mechanics removed the injectors and flushed them and so they probably kept cranking until the battery was almost discharged before the engine started.

The engine light fault will need checking with an obd scanner to discover the cause. Taking a wild guess it could be the oxygen sensor which is likely to complain bitterly about being bombarded with unburned and burning oil (diesel).

Good luck!

Replaced battery now there is zero juice

Don't assume that a new battery is ok. Personally, I've fitted a new battery to later discover that it was that new battery at fault.

However, it's quite rare ..

If your battery is discharging very quickly irrespective of whether the engine is running or the car is parked - suspect the alternator. Inside the alternator there is a rectifier pack - diodes - if this fails it can allow your battery to discharge very quickly - sometimes within a minute or two, quite literally.

If you can, disconnect the leads from the back of your alternator and charge your battery. Reconnect the battery but not the alternator. If your car starts and continues to start without the battery going flat - your alternator is at fault.

The only other fault that can cause a healthy battery to discharge is a parasitic drain - something is remaining 'live' after the engine is switched off and draining your battery power.

If you drive your car to a spares shop/auto electrician they will be able to tell you within a minute if your alternator is the problem.

Where is the starter relay switch located and what number is it labeled in box?

Hi there my name is Brandon I am 5 gen. Electrical n mechanical engineering technician I am the man that mechanics take the cars they cant fix or don't know what is wrong or cant find out the problem they bring it to my shop and I find out and fix the problem!!! I grow up under a Hood with my dad and grandpa n my dads best friend and to much schooln so I am here to help you and do the best I can with the little information I get!!! OK it is not the relay or it would not start at all no matter how long you are trying to!!! It is more than likely be a ground circuit breaker for the starting system and to find out you have to do a voltage drop test to the same side po-po nev-nev also you have to have a load on it testing for your volt drop!!! Also I would get new wires and then check out the battery and I would have the altn. Checked out to do not have to take it off just use a voltage metr.I can tell you I bet it is a ground or battery and even the ground at back on car will make it not start

Battery wont stay charged, alternator problem?

I suggest that you take the car to an autoparts store and have them check the alternator output. That will tell whether the alternator is putting out sufficient voltage to keep the battery charged or not. Most parts stores will check the alternator for free. Hope this helped and best wishes.

1987 F150 302 ci. EFI, Automatic, Was running good. Next morning NOTHING! Wouldn't start or crank over? Just clicking and buzzing, Headlights OKAY. Tried jump starting... NO GOOD. Took battery in... Was...

try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.
