On the left hand side of the engine as you sit on the bike there is a small screwed in dipstick it goes in there.5w30 is what oil you need and to check it don't screw the stick in just push it down till it stops then pull it out and check it.

How many quarts of oil for a 1997 honda cbr 900rr?

Most are about 3.5 quarts with new filter. Best way to handle this is warm the bike for a bit then drain oil, put new filter on, then add 3 quarts of oil( put the drain plug back before adding oil), Start bike for a few seconds then shut off. Get on right side of bike and pull it upright , look at the little glass window located on the lower right side of bike. Add oil until the oil is in the center of glass window.....Important, make sure bike is upright to get a accurate reading.

Good luck

Procedure to check oil level for RT1200 (police bike). Do I need to check the oil level when the bike is cold or after warm up??

Check oil when bike is cold...... here is the best procedure.

Ride bike (and enjoy)
Park bike on side stand, let sit for at least 10 minutes or overnight. (lets oil drain out of cooler into sump)
Put bike on center stand. Bike should be on level ground
Check oil level in window on lower LHS of engine.
Level should be anywhere inside of red circle in sight glass.
DO NOT OVERFILL let level get down to lower edge of red circle before adding oil

Good Luck!

Suzuki bandit sticky gearbox

Stop riding the bike until you change the gearbox oil and oil filter. Yes, the oil is probably the problem. I am somewhat surprised that the pistons haven't seized yet. On the bottom or lower side of the gear box there will be an oil drain plug. Drain the oil and put in new oil. The oil fill hole is probably on the right side cover near the rear of the casing. The plug will probably have a dip stick to measure the oil level. Put in 10w40 motor oil. Ride the bike for a few hours then drain the oil to help flush out the dirt and grit built up in the gearbox. Put in fresh oil and a new oil filter if the bike has a filter.

Your bike is 18 years old and parts can be difficult to find. Your bike probably has an oil filter. If so, it desperately needs a new one. Google " vintage suzuki motorcycle parts " . I can not find a free service manual online. You may be able to buy one at www.repairmanuals.com

Bought a 2004 CBR 600 RR how do i check and add oil

Hi there , great bike  by the way.... Okay so you just bought a nice bike, the best thing to to is to assume that it hasn't been done, One thing is for sure the bike shop 9 times out of 10 will not spend much on a trade in and people that sell their bikes usually don't service them before they sell them which leaves you in limbo land so, if the bike is running well then great buy your self a new oil filter and oil , (check owners manual or ask at the bike shop when you buy the oil but if it was me i would used the Motul full synthetic considering the amount of miles the bike is only just run in so she will be a bit tight.
To check the oil it is easy .
First kick her over and let her run until she's at operating temperature, (don't rev it hard or any thing let it do it by itself, once this is achieved , stop the bike , put the bike on its dual stand (if fitted) if your bike has not got one then hold the bike level , now on the motor there is a black twist grip plug , with finger grab face on it , unwind it out and you will see a dip stick , on the dip stick there is two markings , one is the low level the other is the fill level , anywhere below  half way should be topped up no higher than the top mark on the stick, remember the bike must be level,
To change the oil and the oil filter its just a matter of placing the bike on its main stand ( again if your bike only came with the side stand it means that the drain plug will be located on the left side of the bottom of the motor and is usually easy to find) and in most bikes they design the fairing around it so you don't have to remove any covers , and same for the oil filter ,
I hope this info helps you , if you need a more in depth look at how to let me know

Oil

Also check that bike is properly positioned. Is bike on level ground? With most bikes oil is checked on center stand or holding bike upright not on side stand. Also check manual some bikes say to check hot very few with cold motor. (many bikes with oil tanks will fill up crankcase and appear empty if checked cold especially after sitting for a long time) Most will say to wait a period of time after turning off motor (usually between 10 and 30 min.) but some say to check immediately after turning off. ,
