Bought a 2004 CBR 600 RR how do i check and add oil
Hi there , great bike by the way....
Okay so you just bought a nice bike, the best thing to to is to assume that it hasn't been done, One thing is for sure the bike shop 9 times out of 10 will not spend much on a trade in and people that sell their bikes usually don't service them before they sell them which leaves you in limbo land so, if the bike is running well then great buy your self a new oil filter and oil , (check owners manual or ask at the bike shop when you buy the oil but if it was me i would used the Motul full synthetic considering the amount of miles the bike is only just run in so she will be a bit tight.
To check the oil it is easy .
First kick her over and let her run until she's at operating temperature, (don't rev it hard or any thing let it do it by itself, once this is achieved , stop the bike , put the bike on its dual stand (if fitted) if your bike has not got one then hold the bike level , now on the motor there is a black twist grip plug , with finger grab face on it , unwind it out and you will see a dip stick , on the dip stick there is two markings , one is the low level the other is the fill level , anywhere below half way should be topped up no higher than the top mark on the stick, remember the bike must be level,
To change the oil and the oil filter its just a matter of placing the bike on its main stand ( again if your bike only came with the side stand it means that the drain plug will be located on the left side of the bottom of the motor and is usually easy to find) and in most bikes they design the fairing around it so you don't have to remove any covers , and same for the oil filter ,
I hope this info helps you , if you need a more in depth look at how to let me know
Regards
