This may help, try checking that your fuel tank is venting properly,if it has a blocked vent then it will create a vacuum in the tank and will not allow fuel to drop to the carbs, once the engine has stopped the suction from the carbs to the tank stops, the vacuum then disappears and the fuel can then run to the carbs,my bike did something similar and it turned out to be a blocked vent....hope this helps
Is the bike fuel injected? If so a common problem with the 04 and 05 softails is the feed line to the injectors will rub the inside of the tank until it makes a hole in the line. You will normally notice that when the tank is full your problem goes away. This is because the hole in the line is sucking fuel until the fuel level is below the hole. At which point it begins to **** air. You will have to remove the console and pull the top pltae off and disconnect the line. Then pull the line off the bottom of the tank and pull the whole line out. Inspect for holes and replace as necessary.

While riding, bike just loses power and idles to a smooth stop. There is no sputtering or rough running and there is no response when you increase the throttle. It acts like it loses fuel pressure and just runs on what fuel is left in the line. It will immediately start back up and runs fine until it happens again. This happened two different times when we first got the bike 2 years ago and has not done it since, until this past weekend. It did it two different times about 15 miles apart and ran fine before and after each incident.
Sounds like water in the gas. drain a cup of gas from the tank. If your bike has carbs, drain the carbs also.
