Yep, yamaha's must've been built in southern Japan. They are cold hearted, designed lean to meet EPA rules. What worked for me was going up 2 steps on the primary jets, one step on the main. I lost a hair of mileage, but the bike started better and gained mid range performance. Also, They don't use a conventional choke, like a butterfly valve that closes, rather they have an enrichment circuit. Be sure the cable actuating it is working freely, and replacing the O rings where the actuating piston goes into the carb helps too.

SOURCE: 2002 Yamaha V-Star Classic 1100 Will not run over 70 MPH

Hi,
The first thing you need to check is the air filter. Sometimes critters can get into the airbox when a bike sits for awhile. Sounds crazy, but it has happened to me. If nothing is blocking the filter, give it a quick clean since you have it out.
Next things to check:
Faulty diaphragm
Improperly adjusted fuel level
Clogged or loose main jet
Faulty fuel pump
You may not be able to check these on your own, but these are the next likely culprits.
Hope this helped

SOURCE: my 00 yamaha r6 has a rumbleing noise from engine

You may have a case of pre-ignition, otherwise known as engine knock. Ask the dealer what the stock spark plug should be then get plugs one step colder than stock. Next, use the gas in the tank for your lawnmower and refill the tank with premium gas. Be sure the gear box oil level is good and the chain gets a shot of lubrication as well. The gear oil and chain oil is to lessen the load on the engine. You should notice a difference in about 50 miles or so.

I think this solution will solve the problem. Please rate this solution as a "FixYa" in a few days.

SOURCE: Yamaha XV17 Runs For A Minute - Then Dies

The dealer is not interested.
The bike is set up very lean to meet emissions standards. Any of them will benefit from larger jets. It's probably running too lean.

2002 Chevy 1500, 5.3. It turns over but no start below 40 degrees, above 40 fine. Put heater in cab for few minutes and starts?

One possible reason for this could be a faulty engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The ECT sensor tells the engine control module (ECM) the temperature of the engine coolant, which is used to adjust the air/fuel mixture for starting. If the ECT sensor is faulty, it may be sending incorrect temperature readings to the ECM, causing the engine to not start in cold weather.

Another possibility could be a weak fuel pump check valve. When the fuel pump check valve fails, it can cause the fuel pressure to drop when the engine is turned off, which can cause hard starting in cold weather .

It's also possible that the battery is weak and not providing enough power to start the engine in cold weather. Cold temperatures can reduce the battery's cranking power, which can make it difficult to start the engine.

I would recommend taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic to diagnose the issue.

2002 Ford Mustang GT, CAR STARTS UP FINE WHEN COLD. Hard to start when warm No Check Engine lights come on.

Think about how the vehicle is acting. Starts fine when cold, hard to start when warm. In these computer operated systems, the computer runs everything. Starts fine when cold: the computer has the engine in cold start mode putting more fuel in till it warms up. Temperature sending unit in the manifold sends a message to the computer telling it to stop the cold start mode and it stops dumping excess fuel into the cylinders and it runs fine. IF, mind you, IF the temperature sending unit is faulty, it's not telling the computer to stop the cold start mode and is flooding the engine with fuel cause it's sill in cold start mode. This is my take away on your situation and the temp sending unit is something to check to be sure it's functional. Check it out. I hope this WAS the answer to your problem my friend. It's typical. Luck to'ya Bro.

2002 malibu will not start when cold. After it starts by priming it then starts fine.

ever tune it up, try new spark plugs. gapped to spec.
starts fine and runs fine, not said the latter....????

Cold starts are the hardest, takes
these things to start good. cold.
1: go winter fuel (if cold out, isit? then winter fuel works best)
2: a good engine and good spark plugs, (hot spark)
3: good cold start fueling,
to get #3 the modern car 89- now. needs a working and accurate
ECT sensor, this tells the ECU exactly how much fuel to use.
if the ECT reads warming than REALITY, the fueling will be weak
and may not start or stall fast.

no location stated, nor if car is a daily driver, that is fresh fuel
every week,,,,

My Hummer H2 2003 model had a problem starting when its warm. Like when I start it in the morning, its normal, but after driving it for a few minutes and the engine is warm, I had difficulty starting

I had this same problem with my 2003 H2, my mechanic found that the fuel diaphragm was cracked and this was allowing my truck to flood. If it was a cold start, the extra fuel would evaporate and it would start fine. It actually got to the point where I would stall at a stop light or stop sign at idle. The part was is the neighborhood of $175.00 and about 1 hour of labor to install.

2002 Yamaha XVS 1100 motorcycle with starting problems.

Air cleaner clean? Is it in fact warm (the engine) .

Id be inclined to let it warm a little more. Your hot bike has advanced time and as a result is difficult when cold.

2002 buick centry custom

You might want to check the ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) It could be defective and telling the PCM (car's computer) that the engine coolant is cold all the time.

Starting problem not related to battery or charging system.

You will, a cold start problem that is.

By American it is the last thing we produce, everything else is imported.
