Your filter will either be a canister or paper type of filter the cannister type is usually at the front of the bike engine at the bottom. If it's the paper type these are usually located under the engine .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IgctXkWE-w here I've added a youtube video link on how to change your oil and filter it won't be your bike but the fundamentals are the same. Never run the engine while you are draining the oil or when the engine is drained of oil as irepairable damage will occur. hope this helps.

Oil Change

Depending on the manufacture some come with oil filters and some without. There exists on all machines a drain plug located on or near the bottom of the crankcase housing. Use a suitable container to catch the drain oil ( 1 gallon drain pan ) . Drain the oil completely from the crankcase some drain plugs contain a magnet to catch particles clean it off prior to reinstalling it, reinstall the drain plug. Locate and remove the oil filter making sure the old oil filter base gasket comes off with the old filter, install a new oil filter as described by the manufacture. Then refill the crankcase with the proper mount of new engine oil through the filler plug/ dipstick hole.

Were is locate the oil filter for the borrego 2009 4.6

I have an '09 Borrego, the oil filter is located on the front of the motor below the harmonic balancer,
To access it remove the lower valenca panel under the front behind the bumper. There are 7 bolts holding the panel on, remove all 7 bolts and the panel will drop free. You will see the oil filter housing just above the sway bar and below the harmonic balancer. You can use a 1-1/16" socket and a 6"-12" extension to remove the filter cap. Make sure to get the V-8 filter, it is not the same as the 6 cyl filter.

What do I need to change the oil myself?

  1. First off, determine if changing oil in your vehicles is something that you really want to do if you have never done so before. There are some up-front expenses that must be considered to perform the work safely and you must have a location to perform the work too. To purchase the tools required and perform only a single oil change would not be very economical. But, changing oil over the life of each vehicle will average the cost of the tools so they end up being very inexpensive.

So, if you are ready to go the very first step is gather up the list of the materials listed. Make sure you get the correct filter and oil for your vehicle. You can normally get this information from your owners manual, online sources or the local auto parts store.
  2. Step 2 Select a level location to perform your work. Using either the ramps or a jack, elevate the car to a position that allows you access to the engine area. Make sure the car is secure by setting the parking brake and set jack stands in place if you jacked the car up. Open the hood of the car, locate and remove the dipstick and oil filler cap. Wipe off any oil on each item and place it to the side.
  3. Step 3 Move underneath the vehicle and locate the oil drain plug on the engine oil pan. With your drain pan located directly below the plug, remove the oil drain plug. If the engine is warm, the oil will be too - do not change oil on a hot engine, wait until it cools some, but not cold either. Warm oil will drain better.
  4. Step 4 The oil will take roughly 5-10 minutes to completely drain, once it becomes a drip, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely. Do not overtighten it as you may strip the threads. Now, locate the oil filter and placing the drain pan beneath it, remove the filter with your filter wrench. Some oil will start to drain out as you remove the filter. With the filter out, allow any remaining oil to drain, then wipe the mount making sure that there is no rubber gasket left in place as sometimes the gasket will stick to the mount. (new filter has a new gasket on top of it) Now, lubricate the new filter gasket with a touch of oil and then spin it onto the mount to hand tight. Using your filter wrench, give it about a 1/2- 1 turn more.
  5. Step 5 Back to the top of the engine, pour your fresh oil into the oil fill and once you have completed that, replace your dipstick. Start the engine and allow it to idle. Check for any oil leaks by looking under the engine area, but do not go underneath the car with it running. Everything should be good and you can now lower the car to the ground.
  6. Step 6 Your last step is to recycle your used oil and filter. Place the used oil in your disposal can and also drain as much oil from the filter as possible. Place the used filter in a plastic grocery bag and take both back to the auto parts store or your local recycling center for proper disposal.
The normal cost of 5 quarts of oil and an oil filter runs about $15 which saves you 50%-70% of what a quick change oil station would charge you. You may wish to also consider using synthetic oil in the future which will allow you to extend your oil change intervals and reduce our dependence on fossil oil.

Looking to change the oil on my V6 AWD 2004 SRX. Where is the drain plug and filter case located? What size wrenches are needed?

Locate the drain plug, size 13mm, drain the oil, replace drain plug. The oil filter is located by the dipstick. Replace filter put 5.6qtz of 5w-30 synthetic and you are good to go. and the oil filter is located to the right of the engine cover if your looking in at it. It looks like a small cast iron canister with a nut on top (its all molded together). unscrew the top of that and it is in there, the oil wrench come and can adjust to different size, I assume you never done an oil change and don't have any tools. go to any local auto parts store and tell them you need everything from oil, filter, removal tools, oil pan, funnel and they will give you everything you need ans some advice. when you put the filter back on, I would only do hand tighten. make sure you rub a bit of oil around the new rubber seal on your new filter using your figure. Buy the time you spend for all the tools what what need for oil change you will spend as much as having the pro do it, Oil change has been cheaper to change now day compair doing it your self. many places are offering 19.95 to 29.95 oil change, its worth all the hassle to let them do it. do the math, filter 6.00, 6qt of oil 27.00, tools 8.00, funnel 3.00, oil pan 12.00 right there is 56.00 buck plus you get to craw under the car and get dirty.

Where is the oil filter located?

The engine oil filter is located just right of center if standing in front of the car. By removing the LARGE Black cap with the 36mm nut you will expose the filter element, make sure to do this before draining the oil from the drain plug in the pan. Otherwise the filter will still hold oil until loosened a bit. A typical oil change should go like this.
1. Engine Hot, not running, Loosen filter housing, don't remove yet.
2. Drain Oil, Replace plug.
3. Remove and Replace filter and O-Rings
4. Add oil.

1st time changing oil filter on v6 2008 rav 4,

I just changed my oil on my RAV4 V6 and the first thing is you are not looking for the regular canister but a oil housing like on the old farm tractors. You just replace the inside filter cartridge. The canister is in front on the engine on the passenger side. Use a 3/8 socket to open the bottom and drain. Next use a oil filter cap wrench to remove the housing. Actully this is a less messy than my chevy and more "green."
