Fuel pressure regulator, NOT jets, ecu or plugs

  • mjbaxter Aug 05, 2009

The problem was the fuel pressure regulator, not the jets, ecu or plugs or wires!

AGREED, had the same problem; hesitation, skipping, popping at low speeds. Ran good w/ new plugs for short time. tried injector cleaner. No FI codes. Dealer couldn't figure it out after $200! I replaced the $26 fuel pressure regulator and she runs Great!!

I have a honda vtx 1800c, It has new plugs, wires and injectors, it will idle just fine when cold, but when it warms up the idle goes down to nothing until the bike doesnt run.

Not uncommon, I cheated, I set mine to idle when warm and let it idle a little fast when cold. It warms up and then idles fine. Unless you want to spend the money on a carb rebuild which didn't work for me or spen the money on a new carb which expensive, just set the idle when hot.

I have 2004 honda vtx 1800c that won't idle when it's been sitting over night. Will idle after it's been driven for about 10 minutes. Any ideas.

i had same with my vtx 1800 i adjusted the idle , if you look to the left of engine between the pots there is a little plastic wheel on the end of a cable which goes to the throttle body, i think it is anti clockwise to increase. try this it worked ok for me however there is a cold start on these and it is operated by coolant temperature check your coolant level and top up if neccessary with the correct coolant as specified (not got info at hand)

2002 vtx 1800c has rough idle and skips like fuel or spark issues. new plugs still same problem

did you sort this out? getting same issues and by poular result it seems to be the fuel pressure regulator.

2002 honda 1800c vtx, stalling going down a hill with gallon or less gas

Your fuel petcock is in the rear of the tank. At steep downhill angles all the fuel flows to the front of the tank and not in the petcock. Meaning at steep downhill angles with low fuel level . . .your bike doesn't get any fuel.

Popping or back fire at low speed or rpms

You could have bad fuel.
You could have a plug wire bad or with water / condensation try removing wire and shooting a little w-d40 on it.

Still won't start

You have electronic fuel injection. The fuel pump may not be working. Check all the fuses and wire connections. Also clean the air filter.

4.3 Liter V-6 Idles rough when in gear, runs fine on highway.

Can you check fuel trims at idle and under load?
If fuel trim is high at low speed and load, look for a vacuum leak.
If fuel trim is high at high speed and loads, look for fuel volumn problem or restriction.
If fuel trim is high at all speeds and loads look for pcm input fault, maybe a maf sensor problem?
If fuel trim is negative low speed and load, look for fuel pressure regulator or injector leak. If fuel trim is negative at all speeds and loads check ect and iac.

If you have the spider fuel system, that system is noted for problems. key on engine off, 60--66 psi fuel pressure.

go ahead and run a full tank of 93 octain gas through it and when you get a chance open it up in each gear, it will clean what ever is in it out.
