Bikes dead!! Battery wont charge, been charging all night Help!

battery may be dead-it might charge up but wont hold enough power to turn bike over -buy new one

If I'm not mistaken, I think the fuses are under the seat on these bikes... Not 100% sure but, on the older Shadows and Magnas and those type of bikes, the fuse panel slides into the side of a plastic cover. This would be right on top of the rear fender, under the seat if this the type of bike I'm thinking of. Good Luck!

Sounds like the battery has gone flat. Charge it with a proper battery charger and not a battery conditioner like Optimate. That should sort it. If not, it's new battery time.

Sound very much like a low charge rate(your bike is not recharging the battery).
You need to have the bikes charge rate checked.
Basically-your bike should charge at a rate of 13.4- 14.2volts(DC) when running.
If it's not- the battery will keep going flat.
The test is performed by starting the bike & placing a voltmeter across the battery to measure the output.
It's a relativily quick & easy test to perform that only takes a few seconds-but if the charge rate is low then its caused usually by the regulator or the alternator(stator).
If you have a multimeter-or know someone who does-then the test is pritty easy & you need to do that before you go any further.
If you do it yourself- set the meter to Volts DC at a range higher than 15volts(if the meter is not auto-ranging) run the bike with the volt meter probes touching the Battery(black probe to battery negative-red test probe to battery posative) & observe the voltage reading.
You want 13.5 to 14.2v.
If you can't do it yourself then an auto-electrician or bike shop should be able to do it while you wait for just a few dollars.(only the test though- if the charge rate is low then you have then other issues to solve)

Have your charging system looked at, first do a simple multimeter test, get a multimeter, switch it on to Volts, start bike and see what it reads, put multimeter prongs directly on battery, very simple, if its below 12V you have a charging problem. If your battery is new and your charging system is faulty the bike will start and go, but when you switch it off the battery will be dead because it has not been charging. When you let a dead battery sit for a while it will charge itself a little, enough to start the bike up. Have you ever had a flat torch or mobile phone, it will die when battery is flat but when you try and switch them on again after a little while, they will work a little and die again, same with bikes, cars etc. All the best, Forever Two Wheels :)

Yes, I suggest that you are not charging properly. the headlight to high beam killing in one instance and no effect later is the big clue. You were riding along, slowly loosing state of charge, and it was not apparent, then place heavier load, and the system does not have the voltage to run everything....so the rough, etc.
So, where are you? You need to independantly slow charge the battery. check water, and connection quality. this charge, on a home charger needs to be like 2 days or so...if it boils, get another battery or be mislead in other tests. batterys that boil do not make it, ultimately, and leave you stranded.
Then put the battery back in the bike, hook everything up, start up and at 1500 to 2000, measure voltage at the battery. Needs to be 13.8 to 14.2 or pretty close to that.

Bikes tend to overcharge batterys. This boils out the water, and cells goe dry and that kills battery, just replace it.

A common issue with bikes is the DIODE PACK, to make an alternator work DC on 12 volt systems, diodes are required. They are one way valves for electricity, and fail often. Then you have a leak to ground and the battery goes dead, as well you do not charge correctly, same leak.

Easy to change, measured with a scope, (yeah sure) or ohm meter. Continuity test, go one way no go the other. Any open, or connect in both measurements is failed.

My bet, diodes...And get a Harley. Just kidding, but you do get to know all of this stuff with a Harley, cause they always break...

sounds like your battery is not charging from the engine. Most likely the cause of this is, a faulty Rectifier.
I suggest you charge your battery up, put it in the bike and start it up. Using a Volt meter, check the reading, to see if charge is going into the battery, reading should be about 14V with a little rev of the engine. If the reading remains at 12V, then ther is no charge going in.
If you have charge going in to your battery at idle, 13.5 - 14Volts,
Then i suggest your battery is faulty.

put a volt meter across the battery terminals, should read over 12v stopped and rise to 13.5v with the engine running.
If the voltage doesnt rise there is a problem with the charging circuit.
Be carefull starting from a car, as this can cause damage to the bikes electrics, as the bike tries to produce enough amps to charge up the car when the bike starts, and overcook electrics.

Sounds like you are not getting a charge from the alternator. You need to check battery voltage with a meter with the engine off, key off. Then again with it running, and the voltage should increase. If not, it's not charging.

when you charge the battery make sure that its cable is is loosen from the motor coz it can damage your charging system. on your case you have damage it already that's your light dims whenever you rev the rpm up. so change your voltage regulator of your charging system, charge the battery and it is done easy.
