You need to completely drain and refill the gas - the gas you have is stale and doesn't have enough power to run the bike.
The battery needs to be fully charged - not just jump started. It wouldn't hurt to do an oil and filter change as well as a air filter and plug change.

New gas leaves alot of deposits and goes bad quickly, might need to clean the jets on the carb if it will run with the choke, but not without it

Bike wont start unless you hold gas down then when it starts it wont idle on its own then when in movement it has lack of power and dont wont to get up and go, it wont go past 60 mph.

99 FXDWG, Choke cable broke, bike stalled then wouldn't start. I fixed the choke cable but bike still won't start. Any ideas?

"Crank" and "turn over" mean exactly the same thing. I think you mean it won't "fire". How did your choke cable break on the highway? You shouldn't have been pulling (closing) the choke at that point - does that ride have other issues?

It might be flooded now - try letting it sit for several hours, then try starting with the throttle WIDE OPEN and no choke - that helps clear extra gas out of the cylinders.

You might also need to pull the spark plugs and dry them out thoroughly.

I have a1996 xv virago 250 that sat for a couple of years. it started right up with the full choke, after a while we got it to start and run with out choke. when i tried to put it into first gear it...

I'm surprised it started and ran. Most often the fuel system is fouled out to the point it need to be repaired. Okay the problem you are having now is the clutch is seized and with a little luck you can break it free. If the engine starts and revs freely without bog or backfire then here is a way to see if you can loosen it up.

Select a quiet long street or empty parking lot. Start the bike in neutral while sitting in the ridding position and get someone to push you fast enough that you can maintain balance. Pull the clutch in and put it in 1st gear, it'll clunk in hold the cluch in as you are giving it a little gas to maintain a low speed. A low speed where the engine isn't at high revs but still fast enough to keep your balance.

Now here is the part that breaks it free. With the clutch still pulled in crack the throttle and back it off. The bike will leap ahead and brake down when you do this so prepare your self for the lung ahead and the stopping. Don't let the bike get down to a stall speed or it'll just kill the engine and you'll fall off. A few times doing this will **** the clutch free, once free it'll operate as normal.

Remember to keep the clutch pulled to the handle bars as you are doing this.

I had a 350 Honda that would do this to me and it was just a (four letter word) to break it free once free I didn't have anymore problem with it.

Cheers hope that works for you as it did for me and don't fall of the thing ;-)

My 2003 suzuki gsxr won't star has been sitting in the garage for three months without starting it cranks over pretty good, did I choke the engine with too much gas trying to start it?

Hi from Spain,

no way to choke this fuel injected bike in theory....but by my experience try to start the bike with fully open throttle several times, take care do not flat the battery, if the bike has not much fuel do not try with the bike on the side stand so the fuel cannot reach the fuel pump inlet.

BR,

Emilio.

Is my choke on my 97 suzuki vz800. Supposed to be

You should be able to adjust the choke to where it will stay in without holding it by turning the rubber piece behind the choke clockwise towards you until the choke stays out on its own. You can adjust this so the choke automatically adjust as the bike warms.
Hope this helps..

Engine won't turn over. Has been sitting for

if the starter wont turn the engine over try putting the bike on its center stand plonking it in top gear and turning the rear wheel to see if the engine is sezed up,, it may just be very tight,,,or the starter may have set solid from lack of use, also the battery is by now dead,,,18 months stood doing nothing and not chareds very often wont do it any good at all, try using a car battery to jump start the bike

Bike starts fine on choke then ticks over when choke off. within 2-3 mins the revs decrease to the point of stalling. have adjusted tick over to around 900 revs but as soon as engine warm the problem re...

If your bike has ever sat for more than a few months at any time, the carburetors could be plugged with gasoline residue. If so, they will need to be disassembled and cleaned.
Otherwise, make sure all of the normal tune up items have been performed; valves adjusted, air filter, spark plugs, etc. And make sure there are no air leaks between the carburetors and the engine.
Finally, if the above things are all good, then I would perform a compression check. With the throttle held wide open, you should see at least 140psi of compression, on every cylinder. Anything lower than that will cause an erratic idle quality and overall poor performance.

Fault with electric start on my Suzuki GSF 250 Bandit

Check that the clutch is in, kick stand up, and neutral light ablaze. Then try your start button. When you had it running and hit the button, the starter engaged at a slower speed then the bike engine was turning, which led to the stall. The stall means your starter works. If the starter works when the engine is running then it is wiring. Check your kick stand wiring along with the clutch wires which plug in on the handlle bar or where the clutch cable enters the engine.

98 CBR F3 doesn't stay running w/o choke on

There seems to be fuel starvation to the carbs.
Check the fuel filter and the petcock, not bad too to clean the carb/s.
