I own a 1983 GR650, same thing happened to me. It was a short in the rectifier, your bike may not have this item since its 17 years newer. i tried most of the above to no avail. I replaced the battery, starter solenoid, rebuilt starter, checked all ignition wiring from switches, fuses, replaced slide diaphragms in the carbs, to no avail, replaced plugs, fuel, checked oils level. I did not crack the cases but pulled the head to check the piston heads to check wear and inspect rings. When i replaced the rectifier it started and is running. $80 on ebay, model specific - good luck
Bad battery or bad ground

Assuming little Johnny did not pour oil in the crank when no one was looking, you must figure that there is a bad seal on the case halves. Did you fail to use a liquid gasket when assembling the case halves? Dirt on a surface? Did you not put in new crank seals?
If able, can you " burn out" Johnny's oil by riding all day? Does more oil get in the crank? If Johnny is not the culprit then the engine will need to be torn down. The need is to find the sealing problem and then fix it.
Please rate this solution. Thanks clarkbd!

Sounds like the cam chain needs to be adjusted, it's normal for bigger bikes check a manual for the procedure for your bike. it normally take about five minutes. hope this helps
SOURCE: suzuki 1400 intruder wont start.. just clicking noise.
It's most likely the connection to the battery. The screws dont tighten in well and you get the famous clicking....I replaced the stock philips screws with a hex bolt and after two years of trying to solve the problen have been starting everytime for the past year no problems. Another gie away is the intermitant starting problem gets worse when wet.

You should feel a surge of power as the power band comes into rpm range. If not, the first thing to check is the exhaust. A plugged ( or partially plugged ), exhaust system can be the problem. If no mud has plugged the exhaust, then remove the exhaust system and go for a test ride down the street to see if the power band surge problem is fixed. This would indicate an internal collapse of the exhaust system. You will need a new exhaust if that is the case.

Clean your carb and replace your spark plug that should fix the problem.
